What is the difference between these two Golfs?

The 1.6l is no slouch, ranges from 75kw up to 86kw, the 2.0l I am refering to was roughly about 85kw... the Torque figures are very different though, 1.6l around 145Nm, the 2.0l was around 170Nm.

And yes, parts are not a problem in the slightest. The only thing I would check is the turbo on the Diesel, make sure its in decent knick, and that a replacement won't break your bank if you need one.

He is looking at a 1.6, so turbo is not part of the equation! ;)

@ OP - because of the low down torque delivery, a diesel appears to accelerate faster than a petrol, however, if you put the cars against a stop watch, the petrol is actually quicker - just has to work harder to get there!

We had a magic 1.9 TDi Golf in the KZN Rally championship - was deceptively quick in stage, as he was able to accelerate so quickly out of slow corners - not to be sneezed at! :)

True.. so then the 1.6 is around the 75kw mark.. which is still not bad for a 10+ yr old NA design.

Its no pocket rocket, but its no donkey cart either.

The 1600 is a very sweet engine - I have always liked it, and yes, it's no donkey either. :)
