Automatic... But I turn the Cellular data connection off if I'm busy doing something. Sms's I can handle because they don't come in hoards (costs people money), but emails, and whatsapp messages get a bit much after your phone looks like it's doing a crazy vibration dance.
Ha ha. Also, prevents me from eating up massive amounts of data... and When I'm home, the wireless feeds the phone with internets, so i can leave data off
