What keeps gobbling up my bandwidth ?

The internet has become one big greedy fat gobbling machine.

Right, so this site just by refreshing this very page cost me a shocking 695.28kb ! That is just crazy.
10 years ago when i visited a site it would not cost me more than 100kb.

I used to love opera with its turbo mode, it was the perfect web browser.

Logging in here, browsing towards the forum area, and clicking on general broadband discussions and then clicking on new post, cost me 2.51 mb. ! ! (with my image blockers ON) (shock!!!)

That is not just mybroadband, i am not picking them out, it seems to be most every site that is greedily gobbling away one's precious bandwidth and i simply visit low key sites as i don't have the time to dig into the web for hours at a time. No i do not have malware or a virus, no i don not have any updates or background processes enabled.

And i have optimized firefox manually to make sure it does nor send data to who knows where gobbling up my bandwidth.

I have tried a media compression add on, but that never goes well, after one page it freezes up.
I used Glasswire to look at individual connections, though interesting, it does not allow me to disable specific content within the connections, and some connections you cant even disable.

Now the last thing i can think of is my add ons. well Is it my add ons ? The one's i installed are all add ons to prevent things that take up bandwidth ie image blocker, ad blocker, and a few other blocking add ons. But i cant think it would be those, besides taking them out will make the browser gobble up even more bandwidth.

Anyone know about any other special tricks one could try ? Or a better browser ?

I use waterfox that disables all the telemetry and is an excellent browser but is sometimes unstable.
The other solution that gets rid of the bloat is pihole. You can then apply this block list

Aaahh the ever so greedy microsoft "updates" on win10. That one was a bandwidth Hogger o yes you are so right, thank the powers that be i finally stumbled upon and installed windows 10 LITE saved me so much madness not to manually block everything windows "updates" But that leaves me to not being able to use PIEHOLE (sorry had to type that in caps.... Piehole seems brilliant but only support linux based platforms i'm using win 10. I'm not using VM either.

Does a proper add block extension not do the same thing as Piehole ?
Or what would be better to use on a windows system.

Aaa it seems like i've found a good solution, properly setting up an adblock plugin works wonders, one site loaded in 170kb and another in 227kb..... not at 100kb as in 10 years back but a major improvement already.

If anyone has a better or more user friendly adblock extension to recommend than Ublock, let us know so we all can reap the benefits, so far this one works great for me :D

I just downloaded 2 movies (13Gb in total) while reading your post.....I wasn't shocked at all.

im on Mac and use AdBlock, works like a dream
