Hey guys,

So my pc has died RIP ol geezer. So will be looking at getting something new, just not sure where Not to skimp on costs, and where I should spend more on certain components. First things first, I am a gamer so naturally I will go for a decent GFX card. Processor I am honestly not sure, there is a big jump in price from say a Dual Core to a Core2 Duo. So would it be wise to get a Dual Core with a better Gfx Card or Core 2 Duo with lower end Gfx Card. I know motherboard also plays a part in this saga; cheap motherboards I know are not advisable. These are specs I put together just off the bat all of which came to about R2k +-

Foxcon Mb, Pentium 2.0 Dual Core, 1GB DDRII-667(Vdata),XFX Geforce 860 GT 256mb ddr3

Any advice will be grealy appreciated.

Thanks

Grim

If you state a budget you're looking at, it'll make things hella easier bru :D

for 3k not much of a gaming machine, and that 8600GT sucks period. Get a HD3650 IMO ;)

E2160
Gigabye G31M-S2
2GB DDR2-800
ATI HD3650 512mb

Agreement here.

That 8600GT is not worth anything reall. Do not buy one if you don't already have one :o

The 3650 seems pretty solid but, ya, for 3k, you're not gonna get a whole lot of machine..

Ok, so from the replies, 3K not an accurate amount for a gaming machine, 8600GT no good. Ok noted. I really don’t want to buy something for the sake of it and having to replace it in a year cause it cant handle anymore. I think I will have to save some cash up and get something a bit more decent.

I am in Jhb btw.

That would be best, yes. I would say 5-7k is a decent amount and then more for a monitor if you need one. That will get you something pretty decent these days :)

Can you use your existing Hdd etc? Oh and existing Screen aswel?

Ino3d 9600Gt overclocked R 1640
Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 R 1765
Mushkin SP2 DDR2 800 2Gig R 599
Gigabyte P35-DS3-L mobo R 1340
Total R 5344
;)

What are you going to do in the meantime whilst saving for the new machine if your machine is toast? :(

Sulking! :)

I have a laptop that I can play some games on, DOTA and CSS on seriously low settings, but yeah still cant play any of the newer games out at the moment like COD4 :(

O well.

Is niiiice :)

Also, those 8200s are known to perform pretty well. The quadcores are not doing as well as not all programs and games and whatnot have been optimised to make us of all 4 cores, or so I am told ;)

Hehe, well at least you have the lappie. As quoted above, just over 5k will get you a nice system :)

Grimspoon, what games do you intend playing?

There will be no need for fancy CPUs and graphics cards if you intend playing 1 - 2+ year old games.
