Depends on his needs, which we need to establish.

HD3650 would be a good budget card, he can save at least R600 going for that one.

Can also get a ~R500 cheaper processor and a ~R500 cheaper motherboard.

At the moment i mostly play DOTA (warcraft 3) and Counter Strike Source (Half-life 2). War3 runs on almost anything so thats no real issue, CS however needs a decent machine. Although i havent played any of the newer games such as COD4, Crysis which I am keen as mustard to get into. But yeah my laptop can tide me over until i can afford a decent machine. ;)

If you want to try and stick as close to your budget as possible, I'd go for the following:

Asup P5K - about R1150 incl. at PCint
Intel E2180 - about R600 incl. at PCint
2GB DDR2-800 - about R350 incl. at PCint
9600GT - about R1600 incl. at Landmark

About R3700 plus maybe R100 max for all the shipping gives you R3800.

That will be a very nice PC and you'll be able to OC that E2180 quite a bit for a boost.

aaarg! that 9600GT from landmark is calling me like the smell of crack call's a addict! :D

3k PC + 9600GT = good deal IMO :) get a good mobo and you can get updrades, I went for a MSI G31M2 and not have support for new 45Nm Quads

just upp the GPU & CPU when the prices come down next year!
