Hi guys. Just wondering what nav software you guys use on your Droids. I am using Google Nav (cracked Brut version). I still dont understand why Google has not made this available internationally.

It seems to works well, have used it twice now. At times it does seem to have a bit of a lag. But other than that, pretty good....AND ITS FREE! :-)

So what do you guys use? What did you pay for it and how is it quality wise?

Brut maps is about the only thing that works on Android

Google are charged per device that uses 3rd party map data for turn by turn navigation. In countries where Google own the maps, navigation is enabled.
Check at the bottom of the map in maps.google.com, you'll see who owns the map data.

It seems that Google Maps Beta for Android supports Navigation.

A question: how heavy is it on data usage?

CoPilot, its paid but can only recommend it. Been using it for about half a year now. Only thing missing is live traffig but hopefully tomtom will release their navigation software for android sometime soon

The pirate bay says hi, however the person who decided to turn it into a torrent should be shot. it should be hosted on an ftp server cuz now im going to wait years. Once ive got it ill put it onto my dropbox/downstorm acc with insane dl speeds :P

Does Copilot require a 3g connection to establish a gps location? It just cannot find my gps location :( just getting an edge connection from where I am so thats the only reason I can think of as to why the gps isnt connecting. I have gone to settings enagle gps as well as development enable mock gps. any ideas?

Nope. Doesn't require a data connection at all.

It should give you a popup in the bottom left that says either "No GPS signal" or "Determining current position" when viewing the map (just after startup). Tap on that, then on "Satellites" - you should get a bunch of bars showing the strength of each satellite's signal. If you're not seeing any green bars at all, it can't communicate with your phone's GPS hardware for some reason.

All I'm getting is 'searching for GPS' in my system tray.

Galaxy tablet 10.1v

Edit: I think I've come right thanks bud, its busy configuring my GPS atm so hopefully it comes right

Crap I've only got one green bar?

Because some people use navigation day in day out and using google nav can get rather expensive (yes, unless you store the maps on the device with another software...).

I thought Google cached the maps on your device. Pretty sure read as much on xda.

Yes, as you load the map it caches the map. But once you enter a new area or change zoom level the data has to be loaded again. If you use navigation you generally enter new areas so the data gets downloaded. Not so bad on map view but if you use street view satellite images and the like you'll see data usage surge...
