Its not nonsense. Subtle backlighting has been proven to alleviate eye strain when looking at a monitor for extended periods. It also gives an impression of better contrast ratios.

ok, same theory as the TV with a light on in the back? Ie. not watching TV in the dark?

Ive got sammy T260 which is 26" but it says for up to 24"

what up with that? like its not gonna work now or what? :confused:

Yes same theory. I'm going to do it to my TV as soon as I can figure out how to (cheaply) switch the lights on only when the TV is on (HTPC is on 24/7 right now)

And it should still work with your screen. Otherwise, just buy normal LED strips, cut to length, and plug it into 12V power from your PC. Then the lights will only be on when the PC is on. But make sure you get lights at 6500k, thats the right kind of white light you need. Strangely I dont see any mention of it on the Antec site
 
Minimizes eye strain, especially when working in dark places.

But seriously, sleeping is better than working/playing/postwhoring late at night. :p
 
6500k is the colour temperature and is closest to normal daylight. If i got it right, higher temps will look more blue, lower temps will be more yellow. Not sure why 6500k is the ideal, but thats what I remember. 6500k does look more or less like the pic on the Antec site

Oh - using the wrong colours will bias the colours you are looking at. So for example, think about the difference in lighting something with daylight vs flourescent vs normal bulb. Colours come out completely different.

It is also the standard white point for monitors and LCD TVs. Afaik, if you use a warmer or cooler picture, then you'll want bias lighting that reflects this, since the point is to provide a consistently lit environment to cut down on eye strain. This is also why you want a neutral background, like white or grey, since otherwise the reflected spectrum will be narrowed.

When video (movies, series, etc) is edited, it is done using a white temperature of 6500k. So, if you want to see video as close to how it was intended to look, then you want a 6500k white temperature on your screen. Having the background walls behind your screen in neutral colours means that when you shine your 6500k bias lighting on them, the white point of your environment will be the same as on your screen and this is one of the things that helps with the apparent gain in contrast. At least this is how I understand it.

As for the eye strain itself. Due to how the human eye works, watching a bright screen in an otherwise dark room causes a lot of strain as the eye has to adjust often between the two states. e.g. as the picture on your screen dims your pupil will dilate a lot, since there is much less light coming in. When it brightens again, your pupil will contract. If you have bias lighting, you don't get that as much, since your environment is already lit. So it has the comfort of watching TV with the lights on, without the poor contrast you normally get while doing so.

As I see it it will work on your 26", it just won't be as effective.
