Define off-road. Some people just want to drive on some roughish roads etc and if that was the case I would get something like a Rav or CRV.

Click on the Flickr link in my signature, and go to the Off-Road set .... that's what we do when we off-road

No, it is not the other way around ... I haven't heard anything good about the Wrangler's off-road performance, so of course I was sceptical ... but was pleasantly surprised.

Funny, that I see the Jeep only in shallow water, and the Landy in deep water :p

hahaha. dude we should make a date and play and you will be surprised:eek::p

and the reason you only see the jeep in shallow water is because i was the one taking the photos, they have photo's of the jeep in deep water:D

+1 for Subaru Forester. Flippin amazing vehicles. Not for hardcore offroading but a real good all rounder that can drive on the sand, snow, gravel and dirt.

+1

I know of someone who took their Forester to the Richtersveld. And had no issues other than ground clearance, which required some careful maneuvering.

... for a middle-aged lady who wants to have something to commute in but also something that isn't useless off-road.

Go for a military surplus ‘Hyena’ vehicle. Not particularly green but as a bonus it is mine-resistant and armoured. An excellent anti-taxi vehicle – you will always be able to out-bluff a taxi.

It also has those thick, green-tinted bullet-proof windows. The driver can sneer at any would-be hijackers and smash ‘n grab artists as they battle to get in. An ideal commuting vehicle.

The legend of Betsie.

Daihatsu Terios.

Brilliant article in the Leisure wheels about two ladies that went with all big boys. The “4x4 men still talk about the legend of Betsy.

which issue was it the November one?... but for R300k there are a lot of choices... and i would not go for the Terios... something more comfortable and luxurious, as well as very capable off road... Fortuner, JEEPs, Pajero, etc... you name it
