What oil do you guys use in your cars, what cars are they, and why the choice of oil?

Whatever VW puts in the car at its service. I think it's Castrol GTX Diesel.

ye, AFAIK the diesels get Castrol GTX Diesel and the petrols get Castrol GTX (except in my Golf Mk IV, where they put Magnatec... go figure)

I use a high grade synthetic. Costs an arm and a leg (R65/litre), but my car doesn't use much so what the heck.

I'm currently using Castrol Edge fully synthetic; I often use Royal Purple synthetic too. I like the idea of the better protection, given 20000km service intervals. (Ford Mondeo)

Been using GTX for years. Thats what most workshops use. My mom took her car to a workshop that was not very well established and they used some or other shop brand oil. it turned to crap after 10 000km where GTX will happily go to 20 000km and over.

Mobil 1 0W-40 in my Volvo
Engen Extreme 5W -40 In the Pajero

I read awhile ago that the Edge 5W -40 is not too bad but that the 0 -60 is not good at all. Cant remember where but it was a local forum. Google it.

Having too great a range between cold and hot ratings means too many viscosity modiefiers in the oil.

Mobile 10w 40 semi-synthetic in a '96 Hyundai Accent 1500.

I chose this oil, 'caus its the same oil that goes into my racing car ;)
