What phone should I get???

Im not convinced yet. Still dont know what to get.
Omnia or N96

Before you decide, do yourself a favour and have a look at the new Nokia E71. It's an excellent cellphone and the OS is similar to that of the E90. I migrated from the HTC TyTn II (WM) to the E71 and I do not regret it.

I use the E90 at the moment. I would like something defferent. The E71 is a nice phone yes. I almost swopped my E90 for one but I'm so used to the big internal screen.

I would like to add two more phones to make it even more difficult to decide.

Now it's between the Nokia N96, Samsung Omnia, HTC Touch Pro and Sony-Ericsson Xperia X1.

I currently have the E71 with Vodacom and the E90 with MTN.
Both are excellent except for the occasions Symbian headaches.

Xperia maybe, but I'm leaning toward the Touch Pro. Better keyboard apparently. Still checking the rumours of a keyboard version of the Touch HD though....

but you don't want to wait, do you?

I never like to wait.

Thinking about the new Nokia 5800 Expressmusic as well.

Luckily I can upgrade December and then in March again so whatever I don't take December I'll take then.

Also thinking about the 5800 Expressmusic, the only thing that can put me off it now is if nokia releases something similar to it in the Nseries with a touch screen + hardware keypad.

Get the Samsung Omnia, that phone is seriously INSANE !

would love to get the omnia, but has anyone actually used it?

Guys, search this forum and read about Ryan's experiences with the Omnia when compared to a Nokia. I too shared my experiences of the N82 after moving from the N95. The OP is coming from a Nokia so this would be relevant to him.

The guy I know that got his N96 on Monday is getting rid of it today.

I also read a review on GSMArena and it's not good.

So I'm back to:

Omnia
Xperia

I do not know this chap but from personal experience I inherited an N95 from a family member as they said it was the worst phone they ever had and the battery was crap. I got it, tweaked a few things and it has been my absolute best phone ever without a doubt and has now only been surpassed by my new N82! It turns out they really only wanted something that could make and receive calls... so they never used to phone to it's potential!

Can you tell us why he returned it?

One of his previous phones was a N95. He said that the N96 is 99% the same phone as the N95 so according to him the N96 is not worth the money.

As stated my move was from the N95 to the N82 and obviously I could not expect to find lots of new features as it was the same interface. However, I was fully aware of the addition of the xenon flash and more RAM.

Your story is exactly the reason I s****** (EDIT : It appears that one cannot have a "a quiet and disrespectful laugh kept to oneself" on this forum!:)) when some guys make comments about some of us on here chatting and researching way too much before making a decision on what phone to get. I had no surprises and was quite happy with my phone as I knew exactly, and I mean exactly, what I was getting before I bought it.

Your friend obviously wanted something different but the concern here is that the initial novelty will wear off and you'll be left with a phone that you need to ensure does what you want for at least two years. A quick read on GSMArena may have shown him the light in not getting this phone....

Piesang, not 100% sure of your needs but perhaps take a peek at the N82 in your choices...

I use a E90 at the moment. Had a N95 also. N82 and N96 is not going to keep me satisfied for long. The 5800 Expressmusic will definately be something nice and new for a change. New interface with huge touchscreen. I also dont think I should go with the Windows Mobile devices. Been there, done that.

I think you should consider the 5800. I'm getting one at the end of next month if it's available in SA.

OK, seeing that the 5800 should only be available at the end of January according to Nokia, I think I'll get the N96 in December and then the 5800 in March. Unless off course if something better is available.

Ok, got the latest pricelist. And the list is getting longer. For the first time in 15 years I dont know what to get for my next upgrade. Theres too many phones to choose from.

Nokia N96
Sony Ericsson X1
Samsung Omnia
Samsung i8510

What is your views??

I'll give my view on the N96... you are paying too much for this phone when you look at what you are getting. I know I sound like a broken record but compare it to the N82 and see what extra you get for over R100 per month more.
