This is the 3rd time I have heard about it, and I have become increasingly curious about this. Difficult to learn?

Not at all. Some online courses. Its purely for Andriod/IOS systems, but you can build websites or windows applications with the same code base.

Its pretty fun. I am doing the Udemy 2023 course.

Dart looks like the C love child of c#, Java and typescript. Not a difficult language imo.

So far its c# and typescript mix.

I dont have any java exposure, so I cant comment on that. Its nice to see how they build phone / tablet applications.

I have a special place in my heart for F#. It's that red-headed stepchild that everyone pretends doesn't exist, but I find it a pleasant language to use if you're already used to C# and that entire C#.

Of the "normal" languages, C# and Python. Being able to write Python directly to all these little MCU boards with Python support (Raspberry Pico etc.) is a joy as far the workflow goes.

On the opposite end of the scale, using VBA in 2022 feels like punishment, but it's the only option allowed at work and it feels like trying to eat soup with a fork.

For IDE, Visual Studio Code for me, please and thank you.
F# is actually far more robust than Go IMHO. String manipulation should not be that difficult, every module is not naturally a ****ing github repo. And why is the only date format available the US one?

At the moment my favourite language is probaby JS/TS using "functional" patterns only
C# close second but it has been a while.

Favourite IDE is VS Code and Vim
Favourite OS, anything *nix/bsd based...if its posix compliant its core, i'll use it

C# with Core for the server side, Linux/Docker.
Flutter/Dart using the FilledStacks framework for mobile dev.
Visual Studio 2017, 2019 and 2022 with Resharper for the C#.
VS Code for Flutter/Dart.

If you like indentation and pyramids of doom, you'll love flutter
Take a look at filledstacks.com. It splits the working code out of the UI. Generates the boilerplate background classes for you. Takes a bit of getting used to, but is great once you get the hang of it.

At the start of our 2nd year at Cape Tech in COBOL the lecturer asked if we still remember what COBOL is short for. A guy from Mitchell's Plain piped up "Common Onbesokfte Basies Opgefokte Language" - can't argue with that.

And yet it can run on any platform using minimal resources faster and more efficiently that any other language out there except assembler.

I know this because I maintain a system that they have been trying to replace since 2007 and have consistently failed because they can't handle the volumes.

What COBOL was it running on?

I did COBOL-85 in my 1st and 2nd year (2000, 2001). It was also the one subject I took that had the longest exam - a 5 hour debug exam at the end of 2nd year.

While I initially found COBOL to be super retarded, what with its PIC for drawing a picture of the variable - it later made a lot more sense to me. Especially once I started looking at invoices and statement and I could start to see the Data Division in my head

They need to hire better devs.
