what psu?

I'm running an AMD 965BE OC'd with a GTX460, 3x12cm fans and 3x1Tb Seagate HDD's on a Corsair HX650W with zero issues and no sound from the PSU (I'm a silence freak). I do not see why the OP needs a bigger PSU for his setup

Nor do you. But the reason your PC is [relatively] silent is largely to do with your over-spec'ed PSU. ;)

Note the 'Tech Specs', the fan only starts getting loader at about 325watts usage - which is ± what the average mid - high end, single gfx card PC would use at full load.

Therefore, as per my post, budget = Corsair CX500, or if you have more to spend and value quiet computing get a higher wattage PSU.

pc wasn't coming on or sometimes coming on and switching of randomly. at the last non-boot, psu was swapped and system booted immediately. swapped back and no boot. re-swapped and system booted.

lol....yeah, def PSU.

just read that ocz is no longer making psu's so might have to take something else. any suggestions?
OCZ group still makes psus. PC and Power Cooling belongs to the OCZ group plus the ZS and ZT series are coming out soon from them.
The OCZ700GXS have been discontinued was made by FSP.
For your setup a 500w will do easily. Return that one get a Antec 525W. Its the same psu as the Seasonic 525 but way cheaper

No its because it was made by Seasonic. Fan work on heat not amount of wattage

Following on from your thread, i might have to take a swap if they have one. Will see what happens.

:erm:

More wattage = more heat. Both are related.

I'm not sure what the OEM manufacturer has to do with anything. There are plenty OEM manufacturers who make good, quiet and efficient PSUs.

Not necessarily. My Antec 1200 generates very little heat. It is quite a bit bigger than the >1000W PSUs though.

Because you only load it by about 25% I'm guessing? MAybe 50% at most if you run SLI/Crossfire.

Meh.

Let me try explain once more:

Smaller wattage PSU + higher load = more heat and fan noise.

Does that make sense?

Higher wattage PSU + previous [now smaller] load = less heat and fan noise.

If one has the cash, definitely better to go bigger than necessary as lower load (on the total output) means less fan speed/noise.

Therefore, as per my post, budget = Corsair CX500, or if you have more to spend and value quiet computing get a higher wattage PSU.

On the topic of PSU's and Coolermaster, is the eXtreme Power Plus 650W (RS-650-PCAR-E3) any good? I have one barely a year old and the fan is starting to how do I put this...make noise, could I return it on warranty cause of the fan?

Sorry for derailing the thread, just didn't think my question justified a new thread. :o

I'm not keen on the Extreme series. CM's GX range came with 5-year warranties, although I wasn't overly impressed with the GX550W's fan noise after 6 months. Corsair, Antec and the more expensive brands with 5+ year warranties will have my loyalty for now

Cooler Master's only decent PSUs are the Silent Pro's and the Real Power's.

That said, Extreme Power and GX are still 100% fine for most people.

Yes, you can return it for warranty. Don't try opening it up yourself.

I would try get a credit, and rather go for the Corsair CX range, because they are priced the same and better.

Gigabyte PSU?

Gigabyte Odin's are fine for most people. About the same as the Cooler Master EP. They are known to be low quality though. I've read lots of reports of the Odin 575watt breaking.

Enthusiasts and people with a larger budget would and should only touch the Odin GT series.

The higher the load on the PSU, the more heat it generates. Check.

Stay away from the Gigabyte Odin series PSU's. They're pretty much in the same class as the Coolermaster Extreme Power (Plus) series, which are pretty poor quality.
If you're running your PC off an UPS, then I would highly suggest that you get a decent PSU with an 80%+ efficiency and 99% PFC (power factor correction).
