How does it compare to asus n55u?

Just looking at the specs , very similar .
Although I tend to think getting Netgear equipment replaced will be slightly easier than Asus in SA when it comes to high end devices like these routers locally here in SA if it breaks.
So spec wise very similar , after sales service i think Netgear would slightly edge ahead. (probably less waiting time for repair/replacement)

Sometimes paying more is worth it. I just retired my 8 year old Netgear router. It can't sync above 8Mbps and I have a 10Mbps line. Replaced it with one of those Telkom Netgear units. They've apparently modified it so the WIFI won't do 300Mbps and it has a couple other issues, but in my experience, Netgear make some great home products. Linksys of old was excellent, as it was the consumer grade wing of Cisco. That has since changed and lately, what I have used from them was garbage.

TP-Link is alright I suppose... I won a router on MyBB a while back, when they first started coming to market. One day the firmware started giving problems and it would freeze every day, requiring me to cycle the power on it. I installed DD-WRT on it which resolved the locking issue, but had WIFI dropping problems similar to my current Netgear. No idea how the new, higher end TP-Link routers are but I'm not willing to wager R1k on one working well after my other TP-Link giving me problems after a period of usage. If someone were to offer me a review unit, I'd happily make use of it to see whether it would change my opinion.

Is it possible to game using a wifi dongle in my pc?

I'm using a Tenda W300D at the moment. It's decent, but the wifi crashes after a few gigs of file transfers and needs to be rebooted to get it running again.

I don't. It seems to be a hardware-level fault found in many, many routers, especially on the cheaper range of the spectrum.

Yep. Anything that hits the wifi for an extended period of time
