What SA can learn from "Digital Obama"

The world needs to take a step back, and calm the hell down. The man is not the messiah. He is not Jesus (thankfully). He is a politician, who happens to speak very well.
It's all well and good for a politician to promise technological and scientific change, but those promises are empty if what he intends to do is further regulate industry.

We live in a truly dark time when individuals put such great faith in the hands of a politician, in the hope that he'll create some miracle. What they fail to realise, is that politicians aren't creators of anything. They're not producers. All they do is establish rules. Rules that determine how effectively the real producers in society are able to produce. Change will not come from Obama. It will come from the people, if he gives them the freedom to do so.

Yeh, Socialism rocks dude! I'm personally considering moving to North Korea, just to experience Socialism at it's best. To hell with freedom... right? :rolleyes:

I'm just glad we're blessed in South Africa with such heavilly regulated telecoms and electricity industries (amongst others). Heaven knows what we'd do if Telkom and Eskom had to compete with other companies in a free, unregulated market.
 
Anyone seen the DA's new logo and website? Very very similar to those of Obama's.

America has the entire economic infrastructure in place, so they can nationalize a bit (responsibly) to cut capitilizing prices. So almost the whole Europe is socialist, and it really helped them a lot. People need to understand you can't cling to one model always. The environment changes and you need to adapt accordingly. If South Africa goes capitalist now that would be really good, but then when we're fully industrialized like the US or EU then socialism must start to kick in. But all on a continuous basis. There isn't one definite model that works the best. And Barack is the one that most realized that, so yay for him.

Ok, so let me get this straight. Capitalism is excellent for poor countries because free trade creates incredible growth, but if you're wealthy enough, you no longer need that kind of growth, so it's better to redistribute the wealth that exists through Socialistic programs?

In a free society (poor or rich), the environment really does not change. The only thing that changes is wealth and what that wealth can afford. Contrary to popular belief (fed to you by the media), every problem that the US is currently experiencing is not caused by lack of regulation, but rather by government. For interest's sake, here's an article from 1999 which predicts the current financial crisis in the US brought on by bad lending, through bad government policies. Had the government not stepped into the banking system, banks would not have made bad loans to individuals who couldn't have afforded them, and without the ridiculously low interest rates that the government created, people would have been far less likely to borrow.
