Hey,

I should be getting ADSL sometime fairly soon. Depending on when Telkom comes to install it. But I'm so desperate to play BF2 online I want to have everything I need ready. So, what patches/versions etc do I need to play on the SGS servers? I have the 1.12 patch, but I'm not sure what they run.

Also, I've read some posts about Punkbuster. Do I need to install it first?

Lastly, do you guys use software to communicate via voice when playing? If so, what do I need.

Sorry for being such a noob ;) I promise you guys can blow me to bits all you want in retribution when I get online.

SGS also run the 1.12 patch so you're fine there.

Nope, do not need to install PunkBuster (comes with the game)

BF2 has built-in voice communication software. You need a microphone to communicate with others.

You need battlefield 2 . . . .

A boxed copy with a unique CD key, and that's about it.

Oh, and a sense of humour, some cookies and some fish net stockings . . .

Yeah, a good microphone is a must.

Also make sure you set it up properly within game, so that you're not too soft so others can't hear you, and not so loud that you distort.

The fishnets is only if you're a clan member. Lipstick is supplied when you join, kind of a promotional gift thing.

sweet, thats all I needed to know.

Now its just the long wait thats stopping me..... *taps fingers on desk impatiently*
I'm on the "3 to 6 week" waiting list

Hey, I don't really know anyone who plays bf2, only this one dude and he's already in a very serious clan. So, how does it work, do I just join a random squad and take it from there?

Basically, yup.

Eventually you'll get to know people. The only way to learn is to join a squad.

remember never to use the punkbuster update tool

it will make you get kicked because you have a newer version than the server you play on

Nope. You won't get kicked if you have a newer version.
You'll get kicked if you have an OLDER version. :p

Also, setting "pb_security 0" helps.

Try getting a headset with mic. There are few things more irritating than getting feedback from a huge sound system coming through someones desk mic thats about half a meter from their face. :)

I have a headset with a mike... I don't know why it wasn't working when I was in your squad Darnit, it worked perfectly well in other squads. wierd.

It sounded like you were scrunching paper up real close to the mike, all static and a very faint far away voice saying "Can you hear me?" :D

It was wierd, you know it usually shows a green speaker on the right hand side when you talk to your squad? Well, when I was in your squad it showed a stuffed up red one... I don't know if thats connection related or mic related? Ideas?

Mine does the red mic thing when what i'm saying is being horribly distorted cos the "volume" is too loud.
I then move the mic a bit away from my mouth and try again and it usually solves the problem.

aha... ok, I'll make sure I'm not swallowing the mike next time. Sorry Darnit :)

on a related issue, I don't have Bf2 here so I can't check it out, where do I increase the volume of YOU guys speaking to ME? At the moment its too soft.

under your audio options, turn effects and music down, and the voip one to max. works for me
