Hi Guys. Need some advice.

I recently asked Telkom to upgrade my line from 4MB(which was very stable), to an up-to 10MB line. I know I probably wont get the full 10MB, but was hoping for anything better than 4MB.

Well, they recently upgraded the line, but its not as stable as I'd want it to be. I have to reboot the router twice every hour.

Please see attached stats from my DLINK U2750 router.

What speed can I realistically get from my exchange. Telkom says I am 2-3km away from the exchange.

That's about the highest you're going to get. If your SNR drops below 6dB ("60" on the DSL 2750u) then the line will be unstable. In fact that sync might be a bit high -- when it rains, that can drop by quite a bit.

You're currently syncing at 8meg. Ask then to drop you to 7Meg.

Unless you absolutely need the upload bandwidth, see if they will drop the upstream sync down to 512Kbps. Upstream is causing some HEC errors there which indicate some sort of a noise problem, probably because you're sitting at the limits of the line's capabilities.

*This is just some advice to prevent the line potentially dropping and/or the sync being auto-changed by Telkom.

You can sync upload and download independently from each other?

Used to be able to. I know there are some tricks of the trade to get it right, but not sure if Telkom will allow it still. Worth asking.

Spoke to Telkom about lowering my DL speed to 7mbps and UL to 512kps. The telkom guy said the reason for the intermittent connections is due to maintenance work being done on the exchange.

Once the maintenance is complete, I should re-test.

Lets see. Will report back.

Update.

Yesterday I was problem free all evening. Was running Netflix for over 4hrs hassle free.

Latest stats.

Note the increase in SNR. Why the variance?

Should I still ask for the speed downgrade to 7mbps?

No feedback yet from Telkom regarding their maintenance.
