I have been seriously hitting the gym for the last two months and it is my goal to lose body fat. I am currently following a balanced diet and doing 60 - 70% cardio and the rest weight training.

My question is what supplements can I use to ensure that I am losing only fat and not musle and what can I use to speed up the fat loss process.

I was using Phedra cut XT from USN, but would like to change to a better performing product.

Thanks

Phedra cut is rubbish i find.

Whey protein for starters will maintain muscle but not add fat. If you can afford animal cuts are very good or biogen phenadrine is excellent. Body fat depending on the area is extremely hard to burn off man. So do not expect to take a supplement and do it in a month. Depending on how much it could take 3-6 months to burn what you want off.

I would suggest a couple of things.

pre workout supplement, Gaspari Nutrition Superpump 250
Post workout supplement, Gaspari Nutrition SizeOn
Nitrix based, Optimum Nutrition NO-Formula X
Protein based, Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Gold Standard

The pre, Post & Nitrix is a good mix.. If money is an issues, I suggest dropping the Nitrix based by O.N and going for the Gaspari Nutrition - Novedex XT (just don't use this one if you play professional sports & require testing).

The above is sure to LEAN your way through some hard gymming, while maintaining and most importantly - gaining Muscle

a good diet is VIP! Without a good balanced diet, the above is useless. & secondly, water water water is a must.

If you got any further questions, PM me and I can advise you further if you want.

Thanks for the advice, I must say that I am at the moment purely interested in maintaining the muscle that I have and losing fat.

I am not really interested in gaining Muscle :D

Is there something like drinking too much water, as I might fall in that catagory :)

How much are you drinking?

For a rough guide - divide your weight by 10 and drink that many glasses a day.

I would say have a glass of water every 45 minutes or hour.

I drink a glass of water twice an hour with animals cuts, the downside is i spend about an hour a day pissing it back out LOL

Honestly, I think what you are doing today is good enough to lose that weight you are looking to shed.

Cardio is your best bet, although - do note, cardio doesnt start working from day 1, nor day 60 (2 months).. nor does it do anything if you just run around @ a comfy pace.. it's about the RIGHT pace and most importantly your heart bpm while doing it. Mastering that is what you should focus on, ask one of your gym consultants what the pace should be for the level you are on.

I don't focus too much on Cardio, although I run 20 - 25 minutes every morning of the week and power train 5 days a week after work. I have about 11% body fat since my metabolism is a bit bigher than usual (I suspect).
Although weigh over 87kg's and am 1.8m in length. Main focus is not to gain much more, but more towards a ripped/LEAN look.

Keep doing your cardio, but perfect it.. the only way you'll know is by speaking to one of the consultants. If you want a fast and effective fat burning exercise, it's the only solution. Don't waste your money on the fat burners, it's not really worth it. Cardio can be as effective and without supplementing, you not damaging your vip organs by forcing change.

Please don't run out and by any supps. 90% of all sport supps are a complete waste of time. If you're diet is in check then with the right amount of the correct training the fat will peel off.

If you really need to buy supps then stay away from USN/Biogen. SSN is a decent local brand with decent prices. If you're so inclined, feel free to buy some imported stuff at 300% markup. Just know that the 700 you pay @ Dischem for a month supply of Optimum Nutrition Gold whey is about 500 too much considering that an independent fella that posts on this (and a few other forums) imports the exact same thing himself and sells it @ about a third of the price. I'm not going to punt ppl or name names but have a look around.

Don't believe me? Well good luck with spending your hard earned cash on supplements that do very little.

i have found that phedra cut worked for me, probably the only USN product that i will ever recommend.

however, seeing as you have only been going to gym for 2 months, you can still lose a of fat and gain muscletone just by going regularly. so imo before jumping to supplements as a quick fix, gym smarter, change your diet and lifestyle - small changes can lead to big improvements, specially so early in the fitness-beginings.

My doc recently recommended Slow Mag and boy that thing is like a magic pill for overall wellness, I struggled for a very long time with general tiredness, sore joints during and after work out, sleep deprivation etc, but since I started taking these, my problems are a thing of the past. I also take MSM-body which I buy from Takealot. Works like magic, I also give the MSM to the family dog and I can see great improvements because she's very old and wasn't really in good health. She looks young again! Really amazing
