A large client of mine is rather peeved at present. He ordered ADSL through Telkom, but three weeks later when he called to find out when it would be installed he was told that his order had been cancelled due to there being no exchange close enough. When he asked how long it would take to get an exchange in the area he was told that they did not know nor was there a time frame.

They tried iBurst, but told them to shove it after a few weeks as it was not suitable for their application. They are a fair sized frim that needs 24/7 connectivity. They have approximately 20 terminals connected to their network and need to provide each with access. The owners of the factory would also like to connect to their security network (cameras) at any time to check on the running of each of the covered areas.

What other options are there for them? They have ISDN installed, but want, nay need, broadband.

While the solutions below are poor, what can one do?

1) Diginet line point to point to another site (point ot point so you do not need to pay exhorbitant ISP costs). Run ADSL at this point and route.
2) Wireless LOS to another site, ADSL routed again

they need a statement from telkom stating that it does not plan to provide dsl in the area in the near future (probably worth checking the telkom web site to see if the statement isn't up there already)

once that is done apply for a VANS / PTN and self-provide alternatively look to obtain the services of a VANS provider in the area who will do it for them

They need to confirm that the exchange is not close enough. Some of the Telkom employees speak from the rear orifices. When checking up on the progress of our order, I was told that our exchange was not yet ADSL enabled and we would need to wait months for our ADSL. Spoke to someone else the next day and found out this was not the case. We got ADSL installed a week later.

A good suggestion. I was told the same thing, even though the previous occupants of my house had ADSL!

Although your exchange supports DSL, Telkom cannot guarantee the provision of DSL access service, which is subject to network availability, distance, copper quality, available ports and line sync speed limitations. If you wish to request service, click here. The provision of Telkom's DSL access service is subject to Telkom's standard terms and conditions, which is available here and at all Telkom's Customer Service Branches

This is what is stipulated on Telkom site with regards the exchange.

Can anyone recommend a VANS/PTN that can assist in this regards?

I take it no one knows of any VANS or PTN's that I could recommend to my client?
