If you had 150k what would you do with it?

I have no debt and want to use all of this for investment only.

The money is currently being held in a FNB Money Market account. The interest on this is obviously very small so this is only a temporary solution.

Any advice?

Me? Pay off any debt I had, if I had any, and throw the rest into a unit trust.

Which unit trust and possible interest I can expect?

Hookers and blow - best investment of your life.

I'd look at investments in a more stable currency like the dollar or pound.

Give me some moolah

just kidding.

Those with money are rare these days... and nobody invests in anything related to technology in SA these days.

You don't get interest on a unit trust. They're higher risk which is why they offer the potential of higher returns, but that's not guaranteed. In the greater scheme if things R150k isn't THAT much a different worth risking if you're still young. That's for me though. Your situation might be very different.

Coronation seems pretty good. I'd suggest looking at this: http://investmentcalculator.coronation.com/InvestmentCalculator.aspx to get an idea of what you could have had.

Thanks. Will have a look.

Have you invested in a unit trust before?

Use it as a deposit on a rental property.

I was thinking about doing this but I've seen some posters stating investing in property is not a good idea.

Yes, I have several.

Investing in property used to be a good thing... not any more! Well not here at least.

Two questions needs to be answered first:
- When do you expect to need the money again. The term of your investment determines the risk you can take on.
- What is the interest rate you currently get with the FNB Money Market account?

Yes, I have several.

Which ones and what was your return?

I'm pretty comfortable as is so I can afford to take risks or invest for the long term.

I think the interest on the MM account is between 4.5% and 6%.

Another thread...*sigh*

Open EasyEquities account:
R30k in PTXTEN
R60K in DBXWF
R60k in STXIND

Tax free accounts max out at R30k PA contribution, so not really suitable. Satrix at the moment is risky.

This is per person - so a family of 4 could do R120k a year with tax free returns. (not sure OP's family status)
