What to do with an unwanted contract?

need a bit of help,
am leaving SA in June, but have a MTN contract (Talk 220) that only expires next year in March.
I have tried to ask Nashua (who i have the contract through) for advice regarding what I can do with the contract but to no avail.

The only option they seem to have is that I cancel the contract and pay the penalty (which is apparently my current monthly contract payment for the remaining months )
Though sounds insane to me.

Does anyone have any other options - whether it be a smaller penalty, transfer of contract to another party.

Would appreciate any advice.

Give it to a family member, let them take over the payments.

Sell the phone to pay for the contract fees.

I'm in the same position, have two Cellphones and a 3G card on contract which in only due for cancellation in October 2009.

We are leaving the country latest September 08

Pity you can't transfer the contract to someone else - but then I guess the phone companies wouldn't be too happy about you eating into their new customer market.

I guess selling my current phone to pay for the new contract may be the way forward. But was hoping to hang onto it for a while before making the iPhone jump.

Right thing my ass.... considering how this companies treat customers, I wouldn't think twice about it if I weren't coming back....

gdiza : there isn't a problem about paying from overseas, it's more a problem regarding paying for something I won't be using.

!!DV!!, if you find a solution, please let me know.

At least, the Telkom ADSL contract that I have, I can cancel for R70 per month of contract left (a cost which will be easily offset by selling the modem I got with said contract)
