We got two dogs (well my wife insists they are dogs, I'm still not convinced) when we were staying in a big house with a huge yard. One dapple Dachshund (10 months) and a Jack Russel (9 months). A few months after we got them we moved to a complex where we have a smallish yard but we thought it would be fine for them. After staying here for a while I realized that it really isn't big enough for them. After discussing it with my wife she agreed that we need to find other homes for them since she's been having the same thoughts.

Now the question, where do you find homes for dogs that aren't puppies anymore?

We had to give a cat away and a thread like this on MyBroadband saved the day.

A very hard decision to take. I hope you do find homes for them. The last resort is the SPCA or another animal welfare organization.

Advertise in your local newspapers is one way or just spread the news amongst your friends.

Why not join your community Facebook group if there is one and place an ad?

Advertise it on your local neighborhood Facebook page. Just make sure you visit the potential new owners to check (as far as you can) that they will go to a good loving home.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I will join the local group tonight.

Our Dachshund passed away at 17 years of age last year.
Would love another one and if you had been in CT would have gladly given him/her a good home :-)

Costs about R400 for a one way plane ticket for a dog.

OCP, please maybe consider this...?
You guys sound like good pet "parents".

Thing is you just never really know where the dogs end up. Will the people really care for the dogs, like they should or could they end up as bait dogs for fighting. :(

So, OP, please make 100% sure they end up in a good place. Remember, they have no control over where they end up, it's 100% on you.

I'd take them both if I could. :o
Good luck, I hope you find the best homes for them!

2 options for the Dachshund and none for the poor Jack Russel :(

Wish I could take another dog, but I have a VERY active Jack Russel myself. Also in a complex. Just need to take him for walks daily and make sure he has lots of toys to keep him busy.
