Hi fellow forumites,

I'm sure there are quite a number of threads on this but let's be honest, it's hard to find time to sift through pages and pages of comments while also finding relevant answers which are not outdated etc, so here we go:

I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini and am due for an upgrade in a few months time. My contract is somewhere around the R400pm mark and i'm not sure what phone i should get.

I do enjoy my Samsung and the Android OS and can't say i have much to complain about but i think i'm bored of it and not sure if i want another 2yrs of pretty much the same thing on a newer Samsung. What phones (besides Apple, DO NOT even go there!) would you guys recommend? I believe there's a new LG G4 coming out soon. Worth a look?

I've been eying out the higher end Nokia Lumia's with Windows Mobile but have absolutely NO experience with it... What's it like? Would any of you recommend that as an option?

I work in a technology environment so will also need something which can fit in with that...

Your opinions and input will be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Samsung Galaxy S6/S6 Edge or LG G4.

Don't think you could go wrong with one of those. Check out MKBHD's reviews/impressions on YouTube.

EDIT: these phones are not cheap, and will definitely come at a premium on contact.

:D

I am using a Z1 which is due for an upgrade end of this month, I really don't think i am going to bother upgrading until the Z4 comes out.

Yes not much difference between the Z1 compact and the Z3 compact so its makes sense in your situation however for the OP a Z3 compact is a worthy upgrade from an S4 mini though.

Wouldn't mind an S6 by any means but doubt it will fit into my R400pm budget :erm: LG G4 might do tho?
Will check out that YouTube channel tho, shot.

Is the Z3 compact one of the waterproof ones? Also, in what sense is it better than the S4 mini? More processing power and RAM?

Please excuse my limited knowledge when it comes to the mobile market guys, i lost track of all these phones that come out a few years back...

The Z3 compact will be a huge upgrade for you.

Bigger screen.
Higher resolution screen.
Faster processor.
More RAM.
Way better camera.
Double the battery life
And waterproof.

Ah yes, the good ol' gsm arena... Is that still the place to go for cell mobile specs? Haven't used that site in years!!!

Must say, that Z3 does sound decent! When is the Z4 coming out? Any idea of what a Z3 on contract is going for these days? IE: Would it fit into my R400pm budget?

Went to Vodacom on the weekend. Z3 compact and the note 4 were both R399. So I'm probably going with the note 4

Only way that could happen is if the Note 4 package had way less minutes and data. So be sure you're on the right package and that deal sounds fishy to me.

It's a package where they give a certain amount of airtime (think it was R200, maybe R100) then you can do with that whatever you want. I don't phone/sms so it'll go to data only

Sounds very low for a Note 4.

OP: within budget I'd look at the Z3 Compact, LG G3 and Nokia 930

Yeah that sounds very fishy... why would they offer a premium Samsung and midrange Sony on the same package for the same price...? Make 100% sure on the T's &C's on both.

If it's legit go for the Note. Brilliant phone! Huge, but brilliant.

Rumours are that the Z4 will release Q2 2015.

Personally I'm going to upgrade to a Z3 in Sept. The Z4's upgrades does not warrant a +-R5000 (a estimation on my side) price hike.

Yeah you better off with the Note 4 on the long run. Sony's mobile division is winding down as it stands so not much innovation coming on their side in the Z4.

I didn't go with the note4 after all. Looking at the S6. It's R99 out of my budget which is still acceptable
