What tyre to get?

Called goodhope tyres - they got Pirellis for R799.

Fitted Dunlop SP Sport 6060 on my diesel Honda after they OEM Michelin Pilot Primacy HP's gave in at 69,000km. The main reason was because the tread-wear was higher than the Michelins (280 vs 250, thus one can expect proper tire life) and I could get 2 of those for the price of 1 Michelin. By far the best Dunlops I've fitted, short of the SP9000 and leaps better than the POS SP7000D.
Pro's: Eerily quiet tire compared to the Michelin, not expensive (locally made), hard compound. Good in the wet, not spectacular (Pirelli's are awesome). Plenty of Dunlop-branded dealers to sort tire issues out; if you go to a TWT/SupaQuick/etc with a Dunlop problem, you get a lot of hot air about how crappy they are and little assistance further, yet they will happily flog you a Nankang or similar import tire that is so soft it gets punctured by gravel.
Con's: You have to balance as often as you rotate due to the hard compound (every 7,500-10,000KM) otherwise you get uneven circular wear; the Michelins are the same, which caused them to become noisier as they wore down. Not as grippy under braking; this is primarily due to the fact that it has way less aggressive diagonal tread-patterns than the Michelin, making it quieter at the cost of braking capability.

Thanks. I had a look at their website and I see they have Kendas for R680. That will be a hell of a saving as I am buying 4. Anyone used them?

I had a look at their store locator and it looks like they only in JHB and KZN? Are they legit?

Kendal's are horrible, hard & noisy tyres, stay away

Hi All. What do you think of Maxtrek tyres?
My wife has been using them on her Rav4 for a while. Tread wear has been good. Not very noisy either. She has done about 70k on them now. There is a lot of life left on them stilk. Probably another 30k

I've said it before and I'll say it again : get the cheapest legal tyres. I have used Roadstone, Intensa, Hero and a few other brands I can't even remember. They have never let me down and last just as long.

Considering the corruption in this country... legal does not mean safe. Remember the Gazelle minibus? You dont want a blowout in a curve doing 120+....

I use Michelin Pilot Primacy and Energy Savers on mine. 205/55R16. Very little road noise until later in their life. I have a TurboDiesel and I have done 55000 on the fronts and they are about finished now. They are 4 years old and are beginning to get quite perished on the sidewalls too.

Very good mileage. Nice tread pattern. About R1100 each iirc. Highly recommended. Apparantly the equivalent Continentals only last about 35 to 40000km

I've had good experience with Yokohama and Kumho. Try the Yoko Geolandar for bang for buck SUV tyres

I can't wait to get rid of my car's Kumhos. The moment it is time to replace, I will fit Pirelli.

I'm needing a set of 195/50 15". TWT has Velocity tyres at a very decent price, any reason I should avoid these?

Revive:
Are bridgestone firestone any good? Its the one with the all road hazard guarantee thing.

I just need a good safe tyre thats good for 60k + KM. Not for a performance car.

205/55/16 R1000 per tyre reasonable?

Firestone's are good. I've got Hankook (V12 Evo) on my Accord. Incredibly quiet tyres, and very highly rated.

Tiger Wheel have a special at the moment, Yokohama 205/55/16 for R950 each, plus you get a George Foreman grill if you buy 4 (yay?) I had Yokohama's on my Accord previously and they lasted 60k, would've lasted longer if it wasn't for worn shocks :wtf:

Basically when buying tyres, (usually) you get what you pay for. Ask the place what tyres they have that will fit, then choose according to budget. Also doesn't hurt to lean towards well-known brands if you've got the buck for it.

Tyres are like toilet paper. Get the cheapest legal ones and you'll be fine. Brand name schmand name.
