Hi guys,

So I am absolutely clueless about ups, so I need to know if the Mecer 850va 450w will be able to run a micro pc which uses a 19v psu, 2 monitors and a 19v router for a period of maximum 3 hours during load shedding? TIA

1636488508843.pngThese UPS's are designed to run for max 15 mins and are meant to keep equipment up long enough for the generator to kick in or to give you time shut down the pc.

We used to use deep cycle batteries but they don't last. Now lithium has become more affordable.

You need something like this:

You still need to include battery cables to connect battery and inverter and a box for cosmetic purposes. There is no stock of the batteries anywhere though, only december apparently.

Thanks for the info, way out of budget for me, anything similar but has it all included

That is the cheapest for the amount of Wh you getting.

I suggest these threads:

Cheapest cheapest solution is to just use the laptop battery (no 2 screens) and get a DC UPS like this that can keep the internet up.

I doubt it will run for more than an hour. I use a 650va Mecer UPS & it lasts around 2 hours with only my ONT & router connected.

We not using laptop, the company does not allow their work to be loaded on laptops, especially if it's debtors, it's a i3 core with 2 monitors which we can use 1 during load shedding and my router

A UPS is designed to alert you in the event of a power failure by means of a very high squeeling beeping sound.
This gives you time to save your Word documents etc and safely shut down your computer until power is restored.

What you need is an Inverter connected to biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig batteries to keep cruising PC, 2 monitors, router for 3hrs. I am gonna guestimate around 300amps of battery capacity for your demand, maybe even 400 amps to be safe without hurting batteries

Yup, I have a ups to keep the internet alive whilst I fire up the generator when the blackouts hit. I have an RCT just like the one in @wingnut771 's pic.

I am going for the generator option, for a 950 petrol, it's priced at R950, is it a good buy?

They will have to install the programs on it and they use their own vpn
