Bit of a random reply to my post, I merely tried to state that the issue is not on our(customer) side but on mweb's and it is annoying that they try to fix it per account that reports the problem instead of updating us on what the issue is.

Without playing games you can still see it is clearly their issue, ping any other site than mweb and u see the issue.

Since the downtime that I have experienced earlier today, everything seems to be back to normal.

Done with all the ISP hunting and endless support tickets.

10Mbps Crystalweb while streaming DSTV Now and other people in house using WiFi. Pings 21ms on ethernet devices:

Worth every extra cent they charge compared to the others.

Ok so an update -

Dropped back to a 4meg line and lo and behold im still getting bad speeds (averaging around 0.46 down and 0.51 up). tried Afrihost 1G capped account and got 3.68 down and 0.51 up)

Spoke to Carl (Karl?) @ mweb advanced support, not much help other than running a bunch more tests, including wireshark so once again im waiting for a response - got a lovely automated one for sending in ss of tracert and wireshark data.

Still experiencing dismal speeds and looks like there is no solution in site. its now been 4 weeks with the same nonsense

Internet was great for years, but then came Netflix etc.

Do you guys really think it's coincidence now that lots of people use the Internet for watching TV shows every night, and the fact that Internet has become useless during "TV watching time"?
Maybe there should be a more expensive package for people who want to use the Internet as if it's a TV.

wait for seacom to be fixed

What has the seacom cable got to with with a local connection? And then why is it only the rip off artist known as MWEB that suffers that give these pathetic speeds? My Afrihost test account is running fine.....

Agreed - but this is not only from 6 to 10 pm - THIS IS ALL THE TIME! I am a programmer and often have to remote desktop or Teamviewer onto a customers PC. Even before the seacom cable went down I had the same experience.

People need to pace themselves
WTF - we pay for a service we should get it! With the price that we pay for internet (compared to other countries) we should have one of the best connections in the world. But Helkom doesnt upgrade the exchanges and fibre is coming so slowly we will be lucky to have 50% of current users connected by 2050!

You are blowing smoke out your ass. My speeds are no different between "TV time" and other times. But then again, I dropped MWEB ages ago due to the fact that after 6pm I could not even connect to a gaming server.

I seem to be in the same boat, My "10 Meg Premium " line since Sunday refuses to speed test above 2 Meg. All my downloads seem to support this, none of then go above 230k. I was told by technical support, no it something running my side which takes the bandwidth and we turned off the wireless while performing tests.

But when I use a telkom internet guest login, then it speed tests at 10 Meg, no issue with the alleged background processes running, as the machine is not reset before changing ISP's, so its not the line.

Ramantoo, do you have an Mweb router? My mweb router, for the last few months needs a reset every few days as it seems like it looses the ability to access websites. After reset its fine. I think this issue maybe that issue but worse. I should have spare router here, so I will test to see if I still "caped at 2meg" with that router. Then it could be the mweb router.
