just wondering.... wonder wonder....

ive signed this lovely two year contract, what if now in the next couple of months vodacom decides to modify this package... increase cap/add some benefits/you know what i mean... am i screwed for the remainder of my contract??? or will vodacom decide we are really important and give it to us too???

dont let us down vodacom... so far its been a dream come true

Shame, look at you begging the merciless giant. This is where they want you. They lock you into a 24 month contract and lave you with no options. Suppose you can flee the country.

Confusing. Before I signed the contract the lady at the Vodashop told me they have a special of R500 if I sign up before a certain date.

So I went back a few days later, saw the blindingly fast demo and signed up. When I asked the sales lady if the special is still on she said NO. Ag wel, R599 it is.

Today I went to Electrocomp. They were given a demo by Vodacom. Apparently they are getting the R500/month deal.

Does anyone else know about this?

Please take this as unofficial till I can confirm.

There should be no reason to allow migration between contracts as long as the new one is not violated.

For example, you bought the current 1G @ R599/month and you get the card for free.

Vodacom launches the 500MB @ R350/month but you pay, say R1000 for the card.

As long as you pay in the R1K, you should be able to migrate.

Please take the above as off-the-record. I'll have to check.

Regarding the speed, remember you pay for the data, not the speed. So you'll get whatever speed your modem device support, be it GPRS, W-CDMA (your current card) or HSDPA in the future.

BUT, just like you buy a phone on a 2 year contract and can upgrade when your contract is up for renewal, the same will apply to the data card. You can upgrade to a new data card when applicable.

vms, I believe the 500/month these guys are referring to is the new 500Mb/month for R299 and a cash price (MUCH less than R2999) for the card.

So basically current gen 3G devices support WCDMA upto 2mbps, and not HSDPA (8-10Mbps).?

Practically, yes. Some upgrades need to be done on the network side to achieve speeds higher than 384Kb/s. I'm not to sure if the current data cards can be upgraded or must be replaced. Will check, but I suspect the latter.

On the upgrading / downgrading contracts:

Upgrading is no problem (no surprise here :) )

Getting confirmation on downgrading.

Upgrading is most probabily no problem but according to the vodacom website a fee of up to R200 can be charged by the service provider and for a downgrade an additional handset recover fee.
