What will happen when I play a game online with an original disc on a chipped/flashed Xbox 360?
- will my Xbox 360 be bricked?
- will my account be banned?
- will either of the above ONLY happen when I play a game online with a backup disc?

Thank you very much

EDIT: possible work-around added in post #8

nothing will happen. I have played GOW2 online with my xbox no problem. The problem comes in with copied games..

Actually. No one knows for fact. It's all speculation. The post above me is especially incorrect. Thousands get banned for "proper" stealthed games played far beyond the release date.

Every year people get banned on ANY firmware.

I still find it funny how people flash their Xboxes then are afraid to go online (You might as well be banned, since you are afraid to go online). You should accept a ban before you start flashing your box.

I did a firmware mod to my last Xbox 360 drive[Falcon] and it was the biggest mistake ever!

I still had the warranty until i modified it.

I could play copies but never did because inferior discs would hurt the lifespan of the drive and original games second hand are cheaper[ if you trade for cruddy old titles at a game exchange shop anyways.].

My firmware hack was guaranteed to bypass any on-line check from Microsoft on live.

This was before NXE though and after rechecking these forums after a month or two people with the stealth drives got banned from live, not to mention the few unlucky sods who actually bricked their drives using the wrong firmware for their drive.

Herzeleid is right about not knowing for a fact about the correlation between getting banned from live with a firmware hack, but it still totally is not worth it!

I sold that Xbox before the RROD got me, and consider myself lucky as i didn't have proper Internet at that time.

Im gonna get me a Jasper XBox soon due to finally having ASDL and will never ever attempt a stupid thing like that again!

BTW GTA4 going for R199 new!

A classic and its original for the love of @#$ why ruin games for yourself by playing a copied Xbox game?

It taints your gaming spirit[on xbox360 anyways as those achievements you unlock are otherwise useless with copies].

1. No your Xbox won't get bricked only banned from Xbox Live once the ban wave kicks in* (historically around November). The ban also used to disable the hard disk drive installation of games but this was revoked in the April 2010 update.

2. Your console will be banned from live but you can still use your account on an unmodified/unbanned Xbox 360

3. The last ban wave detected a modified firmware, people were getting banned with no disc in the drive.

* The latest modified firmware is apparently "undetectable" but so was the one before which resulted in widespread bannings at the end of last year, I guess time will tell... If you want to go online with a modified firmware make sure it's the correct one and that all your discs are stealthed correctly. Even after going through all that trouble you might still get banned at a later stage. That's the risk of wearing an eye patch and a wooden leg.

Yeah, looks like it's not worth it. If I'm not willing to fork out R500 - R600 for a game, rather wait a month or two and get it second hand. Just wish they made original games cheaper, as I've spent easily R10,000+ on games :(

What about something like this: Xbox 360 Sata Mod

If you:
- extend the Sata cable to the back
- get a secondhand Xbox DVD-Drive
- flash it with the same numbers as your original DVD-Drive
- chip/flash that DVD-Drive

When you want to play copied games, you unplug your network cable, and switch the Sata cable to the modified DVD-drive. And when you want to play online, you switch the Sata cable back to your original, unmodified DVD-drive and plug in your network cable.

This is alot more work and effort, but it should work? No?
