R15k for a PC?
Take that money and go to a tropical island in the Indian Ocean with your wife/girlfriend.

You have not worked with a raptor im assuming so you think because its data transfer is slower than that 640gb drive. This does not mean its a faster drive or anywhere near the performance of a raptor.
Seek time is so much faster on a raptor that your entire system runs 20-30% faster when using a raptor. Programs open twice as fast on raptor
So sure your transfer rates will be a bit slower but i prefer have a fast responsive hdd that makes windows and programs run like a dream. I would never in my life ever own anything but a raptor, until such times as SSD drives become mainstream.
SSD drives are slower when transferring data than a 250gb sata drive but they will run windows nearly 50% faster than other drive on the market.
i have the more resent drives, i have a 300 250 and tb drives and they all have seek times over 11ms
let me give you an example:
Lets say i open corel draw, a raptor will open it twice as fast as any other 7200rpm drive. so i am not sure when you say they offer a small benefit what you mean. A hdd that opens programs twice as fast as any other 7200 hdd has major benefits and warrants the price.
I have the 300 gig velocirapor and before that i had 2 x 74gb raptors in raid. I have another pc in my office with 7200rpm seagate 7200.10 drives i think and when i have to work on that machine you can feel the performance is not there.
people often forget a pc can only work as fast as the hdd, go read some reviews on velociraptors and come back there is a small difference.
The difference is so huge that i cannot wait for SSD drives which are 40-50% faster than raptors, if you have used a raptor before you will understand that SSD are going to make your pc fly.
Its all good and well having a hardcore cpu but having a good cpu with a raptor is called performance because raptor drives are the fastest hdd's on the market
