Hi,

I am currently on Vodacom but want to move to Cell C because they are more affordable.

Vodacom has pretty good service, while Cell C had some issues in the past.

Is it worth my while to move over to Cell C, or should I spare myself the trouble?

What would you do?

Thanks!

Stick a pre-paid cell-c sim in your phone and see if you're happy with the signal/data connection... I made the move end of last year and have had nothing but happiness.

yes, fortunately Cell c's contract and prepaid rates are the same, so you can try before you buy.
Cell c is priced well, but just hope you don't run into any unusual problems because their call center is useless, and there do seem to be a few dropped calls, but I hear this is a problem with all the networks

Two of my friends have halved their cellphone bills by going over from Vodacom to Cell-C.
Both of them did tests with prepaid sims first to determine is the Cell-C signal is good in their area.
I'll be doing the same once my current contract is up.

I have a Cell C sim card and it works really well in cities, but there is little to no coverage elsewhere. So if you are happy not using it on holidays, then there is nothing wrong with Cell C.

Like others have said, buy a 99c Cell C SIM card and test the signal in the areas where you will spend most of your time.

Like all Networks, signal is location dependant. Been with Cell C prepaid for over 2 years and still very happy.

Test, before you port.

Thanks for the help!

It's almost like marrying a partner - thats why I have this thread - only difference - the divorce can only take place after 2 years... ;)

I'll definitely be trying the prepaid sim testing out!

I'll be saving more than R100 per month on almost the same package and phone with Cell C. Very excited about calls costing only 99c during the day!!

Cell C has also shorter contracts, month to month minimum, useful if you have your own device.

Also check data performance if it means something to you. In our area (Deep South, CT), their data service is useless...but the rest is fine.

I just ported to Cell C from Vodacom. Saved myself R3400 on the S4 while spending the same amount per month but with 1GB data thrown in. Data speeds are still up and down for now but definitely improving.
