So I may be selling a family friend my old PC and was wondering what to charge the old chap. Would asking 1k for the following seem reasonable?

P4 3.0Ghz
300W PSU
1Gb RAM
40GB HDD (IDE)
AGP graphics slot .... no card - went fizz :D
17" CRT Monitor
XP Home
Std Keyboard
Std Mouse
Std Case

Any feedback welcome muchachos :D

I am still in half a mind to use it as a server but this chap really needs a PC .....

If I were you, i would buy a nice 500gig HDD, and turn that thing into a file server!

I'm thinking of turning an old pc at my house into one! that's the way to do it man.

How much you want for it, I only have 2x 256mb sticks

Sorry Ghost .... if I sell, I have to sell it as complete for the chap and if I server it's ass, I'll need it to stay put :o

Does it have onboard graphics or would he need to buy a card?

Try getting him an old FX5200 somewhere..

Then sell the whole thing for R1000.

He knows that a card is necessary ....... and he'll be buying;)

Sounds fair... still runs a current OS fairly well, so bargain price! and with all the accessories as well. Bonus!

i still say make it a server! if you sell it to family, thats gonna cause hassles as when the machine gives the slightest problem, then you might find that they gonna call you to fix it, and you'll end up becoming their 24 hour call on demand boy! sigh.

So, i reckon make it a server, that way you can stream video's and such to and from it, with out making your pc to cluttered...

well lucky for me that I'm no tech savvy chap ........ 90% useless tech noob I am ;):D
