My PC has been giving me bollocks that last few weeks. Crashing, restarting... and so i dont know what is wrong. I formatted over the weekend because of this but its still going on.

Hardware?
Bios gives this
CPU fan speed (approx) 3600 RPM
System fan speed 0 RPM <---------- Is this OK?

I need to reboot to look at my temp... but it was about 53c.

The only thing i play with every month or 2 is my fan thingy, it gets very dusty so i do need to pull it apart, and in doing so i think the cpu also comes off i remember correctly - and it did cross my mind about the thermal paste kinda not being visable anymore - does that matter because it seems PC temp is OK.

This PC has been going good for the last, 3 or 4 years, or something. No overclocking.

Yp

One is a case fan - and one is on the CPU.

The case fan might not have a speed sensor though.

I always recommend that you replace the thermal paste after removing the heatsink and fan assembly, just to be on the safe side :)

OK, thanks, will buy some some tomorrow - any specific brand or anything... or all the same.

I use Zalman's thermal paste, though you probably won't notice too much of a difference (if any) between the different brands :)

I ordered a fan from prophecy once, when it arrived it was actually a six-pack, so now I have four spares.

Thinking of getting 'artistic' with them....

Get two case fans while you're at it :) Helps keep the air flowing (cooler)

I've only got this PC for a few more weeks so dont want to spend money on it if possible.

Then i'll be buying a aussie PC:D

celeron 1.7
256 ram.
msi 6309 motherboard thingy.
cd writer.

Glad you like it.

Open the side panel and point one of those cheap house fans on it if you have one.
