What's for lunch?

Deep fried biltong? Pics?

No pics. Guy at restaurant/pub did a sample run and gave people tasters, it's frigging amazing! I had my reservations but it was really nice. Served with the following items on the side, raw red onion rings, tabasco sauce, olive oil, peri-peri sauce & worcestershire sauce, pick what you want. Basically take a big solid piece of biltong and cut slices into it but not all the way through so it looks like a rib carcass before chucking it into the deep fryer, once it comes out you just cut through the last little bit. The outside is nice and crispy with the insides soft, flavour is enhanced and it's not oily in case you are wondering.

I've cooked biltong before and it takes on a very odd flavour. The fat renders out quite a harsh flavour, so I can only assume that this is either incredibly wet biltong, or bone dry stuff with little fat left?

It was medium and had about a 5-10mm thick string of fat on the one side. It did not taste weird at all, it tasted exactly like biltong but the flavour was just more intense. I don't think he dunked it for very long. Everyone that had a taste raved about it.

Talking of biltong, biltong & cheese pizza is also amazing :D

When did you steal the spur plates?

Hahaha. I was waiting for that. :D

Our office is very very close to where the old Spur at Menlyn Motor City was. We used to order food there 3 or 4 times a week and had an arrangement with the manager that we will clean and give back the plates when they bring us the new order a day or 2 later. Otherwise they bring you the food in those horrible carton boxes. Then all of a sudden they closed down and nobody came to claim the plates or those solid 500ml milkshake glasses.
