I took out beef stew meat and want to make a curry for a bunny chow.

Recipe please for the curry ?

Ok. Leave out the salt. So where do i start ? I see the Indians use coconut oil in their curry ?
Just use regular oil, coconut oil is not for the novice curry maker. (I.e. you and I) Heat some oil in a pot until it just starts to smoke. Add your meat (don’t crowd it) and fry it until it has a brown sear, on one or two sides. That’s just for flavour, don’t worry about cooking it through just yet. Remove from pot. Lower the heat. Now add chopped onions to the pot with a bit more oil, stir it up so you clear the browning from the meat off of the bottom of the pot. Cook until translucent. *

Add garlic and ginger and let that cook for about two minutes before adding the meat back in with some water. Add premixed curry powder, some tomato paste (Woolworths soffritto is good, for both taste and thickening) and salt. Cook for about 30 minutes on medium heat. (Beef needs to cook a while if you want it tender without using a tenderising enzyme)

Now add potatoes, this is where you will get the gravy, up-to-date potatoes are best. Add enough water to cover the potatoes and boil, stirring occasionally until the potatoes are a bit mushy. Should take another 30 minutes on medium heat.

*You can add a grated tomato after the onions and cook that for a bit for a more interesting gravy.

**enough oil is important for curry but don’t overdo it

No I am not a curry expert, I just like this recipe because it’s the only one I know  you can add cinnamon sticks, star anise, cardamom pods, bay leaves in with the curry powder but you have to fish those out later.

Garlic, ginger and pre mix curry powder - That's all the spices ? Sounds like a white man's curry to me. You're a fake indian.

Except for the spices, his recipe isn't bad at all. I'd say try it out except toast the whole spices (mentioned at the end in the oil) before you start the onions.

Then for your ground spices use tumeric, garam masala, jeera powder, dhania powder and chilli powder.
