There is something strange and different about the information technology market that makes it unique to just about any other industry: The complete and utter absolution from any responsibility for software creators and their products. This is done with the EULA or End User Licence Agreement.

What?s in a EULA?

I thought "EULA" was the sound that the Martian Tripod Machines made in Jeff Wayne's Musical War of the Worlds! :p

While writing and researching this post I could not think of any other industry where you are not held accountable for a faulty product.
This guy has never seen our telecoms setup.

But, insofar as the Microsoft system of zero accountability is concerned, I can well see the point of concern.

If I had to develop an engine that had to be compatible with 90% of cars out there, then got sued if some tard uses Beetroot oil and Chicken grease as fuel and the engine packed up you bet i'd put in an EULA to tell them to sod off ;)

Actually there are other industries that do this. For example in the motor industry a lot of maintenance plans and warrantues only covers major mechanical components. God help you if something like a vacuum pump breaks or you develop an electrical fault.

Seems like another industry that is not held accountable for faulty products to me.

Strange.. I wonder why all those car manufacturers recall faulty products then. At least with car engines I get a warranty. Do you get them from Microsoft? Or just the EULA.

If a motor manufacturer release a car engine and they know one of the bits on it have a very high fail rate.. they will be held accountable or get a class action suite against them. The person who buys the engine does not sign a contract absolving the manufacturer from responsibility.

Thats not an excuse :) As written in the article, the medicine industry is way more complex and there you would actually have to deal with real beetroot oil and chicken grease.
