I'm going full frame so I'm selling off all my APS-C equipment and need some help with a valuation.

Canon 600D
Canon 18-55mm non-IS f/3.5-5.6 kit lens
Canon 55-250mm IS f/4-5.6 lens
Generic battery grip
2x hähnel LP-E8 batteries
Sandisk Ultra 16GB SD card (30MB/s)
Kingston ultimateXX 233x 32GB SD card (60MB/s)

I'll decide on the exact camera (body only) based on what that'll fetch, but I'm toying with the idea of a 5D Mk2.

I suppose some age info might be helpful.

Canon 600D - just under one year
Canon 18-55mm non-IS f/3.5-5.6 kit lens - just under one year
Canon 55-250mm IS f/4-5.6 lens - just under one year, this one is the second revision
Generic battery grip - about one month
2x hähnel LP-E8 batteries - eight months and three months
Sandisk Ultra 16GB SD card (30MB/s) - just under one year
Kingston ultimateXX 233x 32GB SD card (60MB/s) - about six months

The 600D includes the body cap, original Canon battery and Canon charger.

The camera has some very mild scuff marks around the corners, but other than that everything is in great condition. The body has about 14k actuations on it.

May as well also ask about a Rokkor 58mm f/1.2 (SR/MD mount) as well it is easily adapted to EF, it's a bitch to focus without a split screen/microprism focusing screen.

I'm wanting to dump the whole lot as a bundle. People are not generally willing to pay as much for bundles, but I don't want to be stuck selling off individual bits and pieces for the next two months while I sit without a camera. I'd rather sell everything six months from now than bits and bobs over the next month.

Cause I can get them for a quarter to a third of the price as a new Mk3 and that'll leave me with money over for a 70-200 f/2.8. It's not like the Mk3 offers much over the Mk2 to justify the price difference - I don't need 6 FPS, I don't need 61 AF points, I don't need dual memory cards... I hardly ever go above ISO 400, what other differences are there? An extra 1MP?

If money were no object I still couldn't bring myself to get the Mk3 as the added features and my requirements are on different paths. The Mk3 is better suited for low light, high speed shooting, of which I do neither.

There's nothing wrong with a Mk2 if you're only using it for photography. It's still a superb camera.

Perhaps but I'd sooner get a 6D then.

Personally I'm looking at getting a 5Dmk3 as a backup to my 1D until I can save enough for another 1D. :)

Again though, there's no difference between the 6D and the 5D Mk2 *for me* other than it costing almost 50 % more, even second hand. I have zero need for GPS and I've tried tethered shooting via Wi-Fi on a 70D and it had terrible lag - I prefer USB.

Out of curiosity why do you want to go full frame?

I'm guessing either low light, wide angle or if he has old glass...

Personally I'd choose full frame but that purely down to video benefits.

He said he's not interested in low light or high ISO which are usually reasons people want to go ff.

I didn't want to make the switch but canon didn't give me much of a choice.

There's not really - but when I was looking at 7D vs 5DMKII I noticed a few issues with the 5DMKII - archaic focus system being the main. It's not only less focus points, it's slower at focusing and the focus points it does have are less advanced as well. Pretty much the whole system is a little bleh. It's slower at other things too - shutter lag, turn on lag, shooting speed ...

Those with high or no budget took both the 7D and 5DMKII, and those that needed to select one had to review what they shot the most and features they'd use. 5DMKII was better IQ and considered a studio camera, while the 7D was more a field camera.

I took the 7D - so was curious as to his reasons

There are a couple of things I want. Firstly, some form of weather sealing. I don't plan to shoot in a typhoon, but I wouldn't mind not having to worry too much when out in a light drizzle. Secondly, I want the wider field of view. Canon's L series lenses don't go wide enough for me, and I'm wanting to invest in some decent glass without buying something that loses half its value as I walk out the door. The L lenses not only retain value nicely (especially if you buy second hand, you can often sell for as much as if not more than you paid) but are also easy enough to sell - more so than EF-S lenses (I have a friend who after about six months accepted under R4.5k for a 17-55 f/2.8 due to a lack of interest) or third party brands. I'm also after AF microadjustments - I know it's an extremely old and cheap lens but as an example I have a plastic fantastic that is close to unusable for portrait shots wide open because it back focuses. Eg if I focus on the eyes I get the sideburns in focus. An increase in image quality is always a plus, and factoring in all of the above it came down to the 5D Mk1 or 2.

I still don't have an answer to my original question though? :D

They're both weather sealed with magnesium alloy bodies

Fair enough

Not quite sure what the L lens has to do with it? I have a 70-200mm L lens - what's that got to do with the body you choose?
You get an L on your camera that'll hold it's value just as well?

under R4.5k for a 17-55 f/2.8 due to a lack of interest)

That's a wanted lens - he obviously advertised in the wrong places? Most the ones I've seen are upwards of R6k and sell quite fast. If you get another friend keen on getting rid of one, let me know ;)

It's got that too. The 7D is a more advanced camera that the 5DMKII. I mean read anywhere on the net and watch review https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3-fHf0Y990

Unless you really need FF, less noise and better low light, you're going to be to be going to be buying the inferior camera

But yea, I dunno the priceif your current gear ;) Good luck with your purchae though

The part you're not understanding relates directly to the bit above it. To get ultra wide on a crop body means buying EF-S glass, and EF-S glass doesn't retain its value as well as an L lens which doesn't depreciate much in value. Something like the 16/17-35 f/2.8 doesn't even have an EF-S equivalent for field of view and speed. I've made the mistake of buying unwanted glass before (Minolta SR mount for my X-700 instead of F mount for my F2) which I'm now fairly stuck with, I'd prefer to stick to highly sought after, quality glass in future.

Things like greater colour depth, greater dynamic range and higher image quality are more important to me than fast auto focus, high burst rate, shutter lag or startup time. I don't think I've shot an action shot in my life and have very little desire to.

Did you seriously just link me to DigitalRev? :D I'm a long time subscriber but for the entertainment value, I wouldn't take camera advice from Kai anymore than I'd take car advice from Jeremy Clarkson :D
