I heard on eNews that In CT the stole Tranformer Oil like 8000L of it and passing it of as cooking oil or as fuel . i mean dam what are they going to think of stealing next electricity?

First was copper pipes, then Eksom Copper wire and telkom wires and people's aluminium mailboxes and house number.

they going to start stealing milk from cows haha

Don't forget that they now also steal security gates.

Then there are airport towers...

Nothing is safe. Not even your safe is safe :p

Stealing electicity is very common - especially in the townships. You can see stolen copper running down from distribution boxs. They used to advertise the dangers quite a bit on TV.

Vis en tjips my laanie?:D

Seriously though, that stuff is vile.

I remember a few years back on the farm I had a 1900v transformer pop an insulator, since the insulator went through the main body and sealed the oil in, when it went pop it drained all the approx 20L of oil on the ground.

I had to buy the insulator and the oil, replace and re-fill. The stench was so much that after completing the job I had a good puke.

Unless your house has been directly affected by these crimes, I don't see why you should be concerned.

The only concern is loss of electricity supply. To solve that, buy a generator.

Ok then, I'll send you a nice take-away fried in transformer oil. Maybe then we won't see you on this BB for a while after that :D

Lol Skinner. Found a new reply? "Tighten your belt" get too old for you?

You said the exact same thing on the "20 Buses Burn" thread.

Should we all just ignore the crime, vandalism and utter stupidity around us? Will ignoring it make it go away?

No? I thought so.

Unless a reply directly affect you, why respond? :D

Assuming it does affect you directly (i.e. you were going to use one of those 20 buses), you have a better idea to make the problems go away?

Government won't listen to you. Time to fight for your own ship.
A wise man once said, you are either part of the problem, or the solution. So, which are you?

I think you should loosen your belt. You are losing your focus :D

My goodness... derailment of a fscking interesting thread by Skinner. Where the fsck are the mods??? [/rant off]

Anyway, I also heard about the incident via my sources. The oil in a transformer is a mineral oil, it is as poisonous as motor oil and I think you'll be barfing your lungs out for a week after consuming even a trace amount of it. Actually I think you would die.

At least now they're disproving that populist theory that the transformers are breaking down due to the loadshedding. Of course the oil is being stolen, as I myself learnt very recently. That, and the rare replacement of it are currently two challenges.

On the subject of theft I am waiting in anticipation for the day when they swipe a radioactive source from a hospital. Then I want to see the fun and games and see how this government tries to deny that there's a problem!
