Renault clio? Comfort, fair power, very good fuel economy and not as pricey as other models mentioned. Just the resale sucks.

An ex colleague had an older model that was imported from the UK. Bit phat phuckoff whale tale spoiler on the back on a tiny little mini. Looks rediculous.

Also in the market for a smaller car, cash for something in the R90K and below price range. Obviously not new, but hopefully still under warranty or with under 50k/kms. Mostly to be used for just me going to & from work, no passengers. Would be nice if it can survive a long drive/bush trip once or twice a year.

Any views/advice on the following which I liked, from visiting over 9000 dealerships this weekend:
Rav4, 3 Door (2003-5, Toyota stopped making them. BF says its a bad choice for fuel economy & a R90K one will be a wreck inside)
Year old Fiesta ST (R140K)
Year old Mazda 2 ""
New Honda Jazz - too $$, big & ugly for me.
New Suzuki Swift (R125 on special with radio, aircon etc)

There's a Mini Cooper going R90K at a dealership nearby, but I'm worried about cost of parts and services since its probably out of warranty & may have been driven to death.

I've ruled out a new Yaris - with aircon & radio its R156K! Thats around what I paid for a 1y/o Peugeot convertible in 2006, wtf? A Yaris with no aircon, no radio and no motorplan is about R120K. Adding those "extras" costs a crazy amount and since when is a motorplan an extra on a brand new car?

I'm now close to giving up. Any advice on much older cars I can look out for, that just keep going?

hmm i would go for the Fiesta, Mazda2 or Swift.

all are really nice cars and the servicing/parts on the mazda/ford are pretty decent.

Seems most posters here don't know what a supermini is.
A supermini is not a hot hatch, people!

I don't know about the power and performance of cars all that much, but the Suzuki Swift looks really cool and I have only heard positive things.

Otherwise you can't go wrong with a Citi Golf, they are the ultimate cool small cheap car. Just don't crash.

Get the Suzuki you can't kill 'em.

I had 2 Suzuki Jeeps and they are still going today 7 years later.

I had a 93 Swift when I was in the UK and it was an excellent little car. I would recommend the Jazz cos I'm a Honda fanboi but the Swift would also be a good buy :)

the jazz doesnt look that nice anymore... it is very practical, but looks like a mommies car. but the swift is something to look at. looks quite like a mini. jazz engins are run by chain not by belt. apparently it has to do with new technology in their F1 cars

well if you follow Top Gear or Fifth Gear, you'll know that both shows give a lot of praise to the Suzuki Swift....I'd check it out for sure....Fiesta/Mazda 2 should be near the top of your list.

And strangely the Hyundai Getz 1.4 new shape, i had one a while back and was surprised the 1.4 makes 70kw
They should go for cheap cheap now.

There is only a few Rands price difference between the Suzuki Swift and Citi Golf. It would be a no brainer to go with a new Citi Golf as they start off around R90k? R40k price difference may be a lot of money but you get power steering, ABS, EBD, airbags and maybe electric windows? I think its a much safer car than the citi and more modern

A shyttigolf or a suzuki swift?

It would be a NO brainer to get the swift, and anyone who gets a shyttigolf over a swift should be shot for being stupid IMO. (and no the extra R40k is not an excuse).. if you only have R90k for a car, then you shouldn't be buying a shyttigolf.

I actually think I need to start pestering the DA to push for the passing of a law outlawing that rolling deathtrap we know as the shyttigolf.
