so i am busy looking on the Takealot website, and im trying to understand why this isnt being mentioned or asking them to remove the Roku or confiscating their stock. Or am i being a bit stupid here, or is this also promoting some form of piracy

this was for the Roku

quote

Incredibly powerful and fully loaded. Enhanced remote with voice search, headphones, and gaming.

2,000+ channels in the U.S:
- Over 250,000 movies and TV episodes; plus music, news, sports, and more. It couldn't be easier to watch what you love

Lots of people in South Africa have Rokus. It's hands down the best media player.

Do own a competing brand or something?

no i dont care about Roku as a brand, im asking the question, seeing that SAFACT were all over AV supply, that what is the difference here. Mentioning fully loaded, is something most of the people who sell boxes these days use. so is this different or is this also saying you can stream anything

I'm assuming this is related to DSTV foaming at the mouth over AVSupply's android box?

well maybe, but the term fully loaded, and mentioning sport is also a form of promoting piracy. So like i said, this caught my eye due to the recent AV supply court case. So im curious to know what the difference here is, because its now a fine margin when promoting these boxes

I don't recall anything coming preloaded on a roku. You need to create an account with roku before you can install anything and, strictly speaking, the apps you can install are mostly region specific.

As Bwana said - it comes preloaded with software that allows you to access services such as Netflix, Hulu, etc. Many can't be accessed from SA so are pointless. Netflix is one exception, but MC can't do much about that - it's now legal to stream in SA.

As for sport, I doubt there's much on it that would be of interest in SA (local sport, Rugby, Cricket, Motorsport). That said, the ad is totally misleading IMO, but that doesn't mean it comes with software that promotes piracy.
