WhatsApp launching ads

Meta Platforms-owned WhatsApp is rolling out adverts in the platform's Status section, which it says will help businesses get discovered by more new customers.

According to a WhatsApp blog post, the platform will offer channel subscriptions and promoted channels in addition to ads in the Status section.

Why telegram you crazy people? It has security issues, it already has ads in the channels and is a for profit venture.

Signal. Full open source including backend.

But my previous attempts to get people on signal failed... People follow each other like sheep.

Adds are everywhere these days, some media players even have adds on their remotes!

Almost correct there my dear friend, that is an add-on button put there by said streaming service to cut costs even further on the media box. Though oddly enough those buttons don't change it's always the same.

I am overjoyed.

First, I don't use either of those functions and I hope they go the whole hog (like Truecaller did) making it such a pita to use that people are driven to alternative platforms.

Viva ads on Whatsapp viva!

How are you the product in the case of Signal?

The thread isn’t about Signal (I’ve never used it, so can’t comment), it’s about WhatsApp/Meta (and can throw other “free” social media services in with them). You don’t pay for any of it, but they farm out your information to the highest bidder for directed ads, ergo, YOU are the product.
