WhatsApp launching three security features

Popular mobile instant messaging service WhatsApp is rolling out three new features in the coming months that promise to enhance user privacy and security.

The first is called Account Protect, a new measure for double-checking whether a user wants to switch their account to a new device.

From now on, we may ask you on your old device to verify that you want to take this step as an extra security check,” WhatsApp said.
What if I've lost my old device and this prompt is sent? Will I still be able to switch to the new device?

“From now on, we may ask you on your old device to verify that you want to take this step as an extra security check,” WhatsApp said.

I see this being a problem - what about the countless people whose original device is either damaged or stolen? Many use their phones broken and only then replace...

noticed another "security feature": that QR code you need to scan to enable whatsapp in a web browser or desktop app ... yeah my phone's cam is a bit broken and whatsapp simply refuses to scan that code

weirdly my banking app, telegram, zapper etc all still scan QR codes without hassle, but the whatsapp app can't ... no more device linking for me it seems o_O

This is nothing new. These days, it seems the in thing to say just enough to create panic and upset, but not enough to actually know all the facts so that we don't need to panic and be upset (or more likely, the full info will panic and upset us even more than half truths??)

Well, I lost my device last week. Loading WhatsApp on my new device when I get it, so will see how it goes.
