So doing some research I see this didn't exist officially before and Whatsapp have been doing some major stomping on a lot of 3rd party API's, especially post the FB acquisition. However late last year, they announced a reversal and looking into opening it up, is anyone running with a working version at the moment? Looking to do some simple request/responses using whatsapp as the channel.

Is anyone part of their test program?

There are a couple others as well as basic sms request/responses but this is specificaly whatsapp I'm looking for. Problem is most folks run whatsapp as a primary messaging platform.

and yet a lot of neighbourhood watch groups, are moving to telegram due to the group size being more than whatsapp. what you will most likely be pushing is something along those lines, or something to a select group of people.

Whatsapp is a closed system, Telegram allows for integration, the solution to your problem is to move.

I am not saying this because I am pro telegram and anti whatsapp, I am saying this because it is the right tool for the job.

I hear you, problem is clients and market. They need to move to it for it to be viable. WeChat also has a platform and is used regularly for a similar use.

OT but the need is more one on one not group level, similar to a chat bot like the example telegram gives. Also heard of many others moving to telegram due to group size issues. Personally, I just wish the chat networks would make whatever they have public api's and let folks make third party integrators that let you cross platform. Played with on years ago that linked jabber and a few other messaging clients.

From what I've read it's stopped working due to them changing the authentication method.

I get where you are coming from, but from what I can tell, it cant be done in whatsapp, move to telegram, I know of 4 businesses that moved to telegram for this kind of thing.

granted one comany moved all the staff to telegram after the Rio football world cup, they used it there to mange the bus services to the games, like the group size and bots.
when a large part of the staff came back they already had telegram.
so they started using it here on desktop instead of skype, few years later and everything from the office generator diesel levels to the Chief chat group is in telegram.

Bumping this - is there such a thing as a Whatsapp API yet?

They're in closed Beta with a Business API that you can sign up for to test with if they choose you.

So not sure where sicelo.m gets his information

Ta! Any links? I can only find the Whatsapp business app, no API.
