Have any members managed to recover their WhatsApp Chats without ever backing up?

I see there are software tools available online but there's a fee involved so looking for the easy/free way out.

How much is the fee?

I can see the files in internal storage - WhatsApp - Database but WhatsApp not automatically restoring for some reason even after reinstalling app.

@SHL I recently flashed Android 13 and what makes it work this time around is moving these files from internal storage to the Android / Media / com.WhatsApp folder instead, after first clearing / uninstalling WhatsApp and recreating the folder structure. After logging in again, it finds the database, with or without media if you choose to move them there as well.

I used to on my older phones. Install WhatsApp on the phone. Copy data over into the correct folders for the other device. In fact this is probably the safest way if it still works. Couple of times people sync their data and when moving to new phone it never properly synced.

There is one part I can't remember before you copy data over, you either open WhatsApp and don't log in yet and copy files over or, you open WhatsApp put in your details, but before you let it sync, copy the files over.

I wouldn't bother spending money on extra services.

I think the biggest problem is Android who made it a pain in the backside to do anything file related or accessing files if you phone us not flashed.

Thanks, I'll try the above. I see somewhere they mention renaming the filename by removing the date.

Example:

msgstore-yyy-mm-dd.1.db.crypt.12.

msgstore.db.crypt12.

You know when they talk about end-to-end encryption? That.

If somebody could just scrape my WhatsApp chat logs and put the files on their phone and magically everything works, I wouldn’t be too happy … would you?

Upon second thoughts, I don’t think anyone should help you until you can verify the chats are yours, on your phone, and you’re not trying to … oh I don’t know … hack your ex-girlfriend’s chats, for example.

Zactly, it’s not possible online. So that’s why we don’t ask questions like this, or “I need to log into my bank account and have forgotten my bank details, help please.”
Anyway, other members kindly offered their assistance already so thanks for your concern officer foxhound.

Older versions it was relatively easy, newer ones you need to extract the encryption key from the original phone to decrypt and import

Nah, that DB store is encrypted. Would need the key from the phone, which can be difficult, but apparently, the decryption key is somehow part of your login onto WhatsApp, not exactly surprised if someone already made a mod to get his/her key from the app to decrypt the message store.
Upon opening the DB store, I think they have some indexed links to certain parts, and not sure how messages are stored, maybe in a certain format....
