WhatsApp confirms Google Drive backups are not protected by encryption

WhatsApp has confirmed that once your media and messages leave the app, they are no longer protected by its end-to-end encryption.

This includes Google Drive backups for Android, which the company recently announced would no longer count towards your storage limits.

On iOS it leaves Whatsapp unencrypted, but Apple services encrypt it again before leaving the phone. It is what I do understand, but I can be wrong.

For once you are correct, I cloud data is encrypted, but so is Google drive

Yes and no.

If someone gets access to your synced data on a PC then it's not encrypted, unless there is an OS level encryption in place of course.

With iOS the iCloud backup is never vulnerable to that.
