WhatsApp introducing five new features

Mark my words, Whatsapp will soon be a full subscription service like X. They have made inroads on their B2B monitisation already and the speed that META is moving towards making money out of the app is mad and don't think that all these features that look like random are cosmetics, They all have to do with the monetisation and upgrade model too.

Don't think I've noticed that once in the last few months, sometimes with 20+ minute calls.
Interesting, I notice it all the time. I try and avoid using it when I can.

Surely their market share would sink like a stone if so? Plenty of other suitable apps (Telegram or Signal) and I don't think there is inherent "loyalty" to WhatsApp. Obviously the big value of WA currently is the "network effects" (because everyone else is on it, I need to be on it) but if that diminishes, so does the business case.

On the other hand do I really mind a small monthly sub for a 3rd party service I use literally every hour of every day? Though obviously there's a limit.

Market share is mostly depended on availability of close substitutes and so far Telegram and Signal are not those. Users are also not looking for loyalty per ser but decisions are based on simplicity and cost, which WA is currently providing,. The case for most social media apps is that they will always be people who are deeply entrenched that they will subcribe while the rest are force fed ads for not opting into subscriptions. This is What META aims to do.
