WhatsApp launches video calling for Android

I still don't understand all this stuff and how the one app gains popularity over the other.

I use watsapp telegram and skype. While skype could do all these things since it frekin started. It just feels like people go nuts when some new engineer invents a wheel in 2016.
Add imo in the mix for me. It has group video calling which the kids find fascinating so me and the wife had to install it.

The thing is that people use WA all the time already from their smart phones. Skype, in my experience, is used from laptops and maybe tablets. WA will definitely eat into Skype's market due to its ubiquity.
I am not applauding or promoting this in any way. Merely stating an observation.

For VOIP? I find Skype better.

Boom done, Whatsapp wins... fatality...

Err.. It's nice that they're adding features, but FB Messenger has had group voice calls and video calls for ages already. And many other messaging apps have video calling.

When's it rolling out to iOS, in the same vein is there any cross platform way to use facetime or is it only iOS/OSX?

Correct. Whatsapp has the user numbers this feature will ensure that remains the case

WhatsApp trying to win back users. #DataMinersMustFall Been WhatsApp free for 2 months now and feeling great. Its like enjoying giving up smoking. Data lasts longer and those that I want to communicate with have come over to Telegram. WhatsApp should have sorted out their problems rather than adding more data hungry services.

Yeah, of course :crylaugh: All that data you save, right? :crylaugh:

FB messenger can go fck itself, sending invites to friends who don't have it installed to chat with me, without my knowledge. Tsek. Uninstalled.

Most of SA is not covered by anything better than EDGE. Ever tried taking a call on WA when you're connected with EDGE? Mind you when the network says you are on 3G it's just as slow as EDGE.

Really?
