Whatsapp privacy fails

The WHOLE POINT of whatsapp is that it scans your phonebook and done, that's how it was designed and that's not going to change so stop ****ing moaning about it and use something else...

If you don't want to conduct business thru whatsapp then don't have whatsapp enabled on that number, besides who the groot F will do business over whatsapp!?!?!? If someone does msg you then politely inform them that your whatsapp is for personal use only and to do business like a normal ****ing human being!

Both of you shut it now!

Apparently people do business over BBM. Nobody thinks twice about the safety of meeting a total stranger. But god forbid they get hold of your number, all your privacies can be compromised cos they can haxx0rz your webcam and bank accounts...

By being or knowing the right people, they can get a lot of info from your phone number.

I know for example that if Marine1 ever manages to get my number, I'm pretty much dead. :D

Applies to anything - your landline number, ID number, vehicle registration etc. Your choice whether you want to live your life with a tinfoil hat on or not though...

It's not like my number is on any business cards/email sig/webpage/FB account, I mean it's IMPOSSIBLE for people to get hold of me, literally...

Which is why we wouldn't give our ID numbers to people that we just want to casually converse with.

Why would someone jot my plate number down unless I've done something to them or they're just a stalker? That is not an equivalent analogy to voluntarily giving your phone number to strangers who you're unsure of keeping in contact with.

Since we're all already chatting, why don't you post your phone number here?

Back to the article instead of discussing the "block" function of whatsapp

So whatapp goes on about how it's vision and values will not be compromised by facebook. There is nothing stopping facebook from just changing all that overnight, right?

You misunderstand. I do want to chat with them - that's why I gave them my pin in the first place - I just don't want to give them my phone number because the relationship is a temporary one.

I think the problem is that you've never been harassed, stalked, spammed to death or had you phone number maliciously posted in public places. You've obviously never actually experienced any breaches of privacy or threats to security so you take a blasé condescending attitude to those of us who have and take our privacy more seriously. I'm guessing you're either really young or really sheltered to not have had any experiences which would make you aware of the value of your privacy.
