Hello everyone :)

My very "smart" brother has fallen for a WhatsApp scam whereby he logged into his Facebook from a link in a chat with someone. Not entirely sure of the details.

Unfortunately the person had access to his previous chats and explicit content with his ex-girlfriend.

Obviously the person is requesting cash in return for the chats not being sent to his Facebook contacts. I have explained to him that it really doesn't matter what he does now, the explicit content will most likely be shared regardless and that he shouldn't engage with the contact at all.

Now while he has to deal with the consequences, I want to help him secure his accounts correctly and see if I can do anything about the scammer.

Has anyone had someone else deal with this experience? Is it possible to report the cellphone number to the police station or would I just be wasting my time? lol

There's been a few threads similar to this one. I agree with you, tell the scammer to do his worst because that will be the outcome either way.

Just change all your password and move on and live with the consequences.
I'm sure he's already doing this lol.

I just want to know if the cellphone number he was chatting to can be of any use in terms of reporting it?
