WhatsApp working on cross-ecosystem interoperability

I don't see any hint at third party platforms. Likely will only be other apps or perhaps 3rd parties like businesses and such that get separated from the normal chats.

RCS is now pretty much default on Android and is turned on by default on Google Messages app. Problem is many people install Truecaller and make it their default messaging app...then RCS stops working. Truecaller needs to integrate their app with Google Jibe to make RCS work.

Another problem is Apple iMessage...but that is already on the EU's radar as a gatekeeper app. They got away with it this time...but up for review in 5 months. Will have to wait and see what happens then.

That said, I don’t know what Apple’s problem with RCS is because supporting it shouldn’t deter from iMessage. Why not have blue bubbles for iMessage, green bubbles for SMS and pink bubbles for RCS?

That way, you maintain your iMessage exclusivity amongst iPhones and can develop specifically for it while still allowing cross platform compatibility in the Messages app.

I agree. I love the idea of a pink bubble for RCS on iMessage hehe

Google could add multi-device support for RCS messaging

Currently, the Google Messages app doesn’t let users access their chats on multiple devices with the same phone number.
