My new ideal rig will set me back R13k, and due to some financial reasons, I can't buy it now. I don't want to buy something that I will need an upgrade in few months, if you know what I mean.

I remember AMD 1090T was over R3k, and now you can get it for just over R2.2k. I am willing to wait for a few monhs until them prices come down. I recon I can get the same rig for R10k or less if I can wait. I have a 5 or 6 year old pc:

P4, D865PERL mobo, Geforce FX 5200, 768 MB DDR RAM :p
Please don't laugh. Cry with me. It was the best (for me) back then

As you can see, when I buy, I keep it for a long time.

So when are the prices going to come down like snow in England?

AMD 1090T
ASUS Crosshair IV
CM 690 II
GTX 460 or 6870
2X2GB RAM
CM GX 650w
CM V6 GT cooler
1TB HDD
Samsung P2450H
and other iscellaneous stuff.....

Drop the Crosshair IV Formula and get the MSI 890FXA-GD70 for like R1500.
Also, you only need a GX 650 if you intend on running 2x GTX460/2x HD6870, otherwise go with the GX 550.

It would still be a while before the new AMD CPU's arrive, but the Intel Sandy Bridge (Socket 1155) should arrive Q1 2011, so hopefully prices will drop for the Socket 1156 stuff.

There would simply be no comparison between your new & old PC's performance!
I really don't know how you can manage with only 768MB of RAM! I've had an AMD2600+ until fairly recently (1 year ago), but I've had 2GB of DDR400 installed for the past 3-4 years!

I know you love the MSI 890FXA-GD70. LOL. Ratwiz told me that mobo is no longer available (end of life or something) from Wootware. You'll get it for almost R2k at Prophecy.
I don't want to buy from different shops coz I don't wanna fry my pc if I build it myself.

Then again RebelTech have have updated their prices and I can save R500-R600. The price difference is about R120 between the GX 650w and 550w. I might go 2 Gfx inthe future.

I find it VERY DIFFICULT to believe that the 890FXA-GD70 is EOL, because it is the latest AMD chipset available! Are you sure you're not referring to the 790FXA-GD70!? Just ask Rory (Ratwiz) again.
You can also go for the Gigabye 890FXA-UD5, but that is about R400 more!

The only reason why I'll ever go for the Crosshair IV Formula would be for its sound card and LN2 overclocking capability.

I wasn't a MSI fan... until like 3 months ago. The only reason why I'm a fan is due to their exceptional good value for money products: MSI Hawk GTX 460 1GB @ R2550, X58A-GD65 @ R2000 and the 890FXA-GD70 @ R1500
Other than those, they don't impress me that much.

OK, then the GX650W is the sensible option :)

Prices will always come down.Have you consisdered older parts that will do the same job.You might end up saving yourself a packet because you R13k rig will be worth half of its value in a years time.

and so is there step up programme... bunch of *** if u ask me, they just lost a 580 sale cuz of that

A year?

It's pointless buying the latest and greatest at a premium as 3-6 months down the line it is old and really a waste of money.

@ponder.I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt but you're right,Pc's carry a very short shelf life.

I'd usually say wait for AMD's new line of cpu's, bulldozer... but honestly, know one actually knows what's happening with them, I don't even think AMD knows. They keeping their cards very close to their chest, which might mean that they making kick ass chips :p.

Upon Sandy bridges arrival, the current CPU's will drop in price quite nicely :).

Heita_Hola, just ask Rory (Ratwiz) about the 890FXA-GD70 motherboard again.

Also, I think it would be like 6 months at least before the new AMD Bulldozer stuff would be available.
With Sandy Bridge's arrival, I think only the Socket 1156 stuff would take a big drop and perhaps even the Socket 1366 stuff too :)

That's a very big upgrade from P4. You sure you wanna jump so high? Why not just do a modest upgrade, then periodically upgrade when you see the need.

And why do you wanna buy everything new anyway? You can get some awesome stuff second hand on the Carbonite forum.

So I went to Prophecy's website just keep track of what happening and to my horror 1090T shot up to R3172.44. It was R2.4k last week.

Just ask in this 1090T thread: http://www.phforums.co.za/f18/amd-1090t-stock-61007/

My guess is that the cheap supplier is out of stock and now they're sourcing it from an expensive one.
It would've been awesome if Prophecy Shop can list the prices from multiple suppliers, so that customers can know why the price suddenly just shot up :)

Unfortunately they don't have a web developer atm.

'Tis the silly season, no?
It is.. BUT with recession and all, one would think them prices should go down since everyone is tightening their waistline?
I'll have to try another shop, though some of the items have stock level/availability unknown.
