When can we expect a price drop from iBurst?

I have been with iBurst since before the launch and prices have remained the same. Lets forget about the few rands decrease on the UTD's because that translates to almost nothing. What I want to see is a decrease in montly charges. Surely with new towers poping up and more people joining they can drop the monthly charge with atleast 10% ?

Can any one at iBurst say if theres a price decrease even planned for the near future?

Thats not how we do things here in SA. Live with it or get lost, thats the motto :D But yes, i wonder how long before they start making effort and slicing telkom throats. I think its within their reach to take a big chuck of the broadband market. From what i have heard their service is pretty good, and those lucky people that do have coverage are quite happy with the transfer rates and uptime.

I for one would be REALLY happy if they organised a samrand tower, that would save me the effort of getting overpriced crap 3G from VC or MTN.

but even Telkom drops their prices. They have done so twice and are doing it again while Iburst stands exactly the same. With the latest price drop from Telkom and the reforms hopefully coming for bandwidth wholesale prices/structure ADSL is going to be a better option that Iburst soon...
Iburst should be watching this carefully, and upping to 2mb with the same cap and same price isnt going to change the situation much.

But for now Im happy.

Telkom has NOT dropped their prices.

On the surface it might seem so, but in reality they restructured the deal in such a way that it costs more.

In the old days, there was no cap on local traffic. This meant that one could go with a single 3GB account for the whole month - if you were prepared to suffer no international... which we did in our company requiring email only. (Web used to be a luxury)

I for one would like to hear an official answer (one can dream) on this topic. I've also sat back since pre-launch, patiently paying my R699 per month, while the rest of SA catches up with coverage. If, when, and why not. You choose which one to answer.

I agree, I got my modem about 2 weeks before the drop in prices on modems and I would personally rather see a R50 p/m drop than saving R800 on a new modem I will never need to buy again :).

Also add in teh R165 delivery and R500 antenna before they dropped those prices as well.

Hey iBurst I want a refund :P

I have touched on the topic before - I would like to see price drops too, but that is just one possibly option on how to improve the service. I think two other good options, as they have done with other iBurst networks around the world, are: increase the cap to lets say 6-8GB; and/or increase speed to 1.5-2Mbps. That way even though there may not be a direct monetary saving, there will be greater added value to the product/service.

I won't mind faster speed at the same amount we paying now. And where my Iburst is not working, Im using 3G and believe me, HSDPA is freakin fast!

I would personally like to see a 13% reduction in iBurst monthly fees. That would be nice. To me, what would really be nice though is if they increase the 64kbps throttle after cap to 128kbps or even 196kbps. That would rock, then they can even keep the cap where it is, because then iBurst will be very usable for me and my family throughout the whole month. Increase in before-capped speed is not really a big thing, as it will only mean hitting my cap faster, but having a more usable connection once capped would be great.

I would rather see a cap increase (at least 6GB for the current 3GB price) than a speed increase

How about more package options and a price decrease :p I wouldn't mind a 64k only package at say R200

Being able to tailor make the service you are provided with would be all the better. But I suspect the more options you provide people, the more complex it becomes to administer the service which might mean less cost reductions.

With #12 posts I thought one of them would've been an answer from Shaun or some PR from Iburst. Even Xenithon said he talked about this topic before. So, really, Iburst might be improving a little over the last quarter, but they still don't give a crap about how much they charge us.

BTW, who wants to start an ISP service with me that works like OutSurance. Imagine getting money back if you didn't reach your cap. That will attract customers. People will buy the biggest cap offered in order to never reach it and qualify for the outcapbonus. lol

Maby shaun should be giving some peopel in Iburst a heads up, we want higher caps, not speed. Or a higher uncapped speed and a price drop.

But i geuss 2mb will be fine at the current price, would be quite cheap comparitively.

And kaspaas i know about the whole ADSL thing, but it is true that for 3gig accounts things have got cheaper and the connection fees have dropped quite a bit, especialyl if they drop them even more. The bandwidth thing with 30GB was never meant to happen according to Telkom and it is their service os what they say goes. They were still charging R250 for 3gigs and since then the price has gone down for that same service. They dont cater for 30gigs anymore really. but the local cap issue is true, however than was a long time ago.

*sigh* what is the point of 2mbps connection when there is a cap implemented? Why not increase the after-cap speed somewhat (doubled will be really nice), then at least we can use the service more. 2mbps will be nice, but pointless with the current caps that iBurst offers. All it will mean is hitting the cap so much sooner Even just doubling the current offerings in terms of CAP and a double in the after-cap speed would make me an extremely happy iBurster - and I'd be willing to pay the same or even a little more for that scenario.

My 2 cents.... I don't want a bigger cap, I want faster speeds and to pay less.

I sit on a 500Mb cap and I have never hit it, I use mine mainly for work so for researching the faster speed would be appreciated and obviously the cheaper the better ;)

Hence the requirement for adjustable packages:

- for the casual browser/emailer such as Gavin, have something with higher speed, or put on a link with lower contention ratio etc., but with the compromise being the smaller cap
- for the downloader, the speed is fine but up the cap to 5-6GB and do something about the shaping etc.

To be honest, I don't think it would be TOO difficult to implement (granted I do not work in that arena so may be totally wrong) so I don't believe an argument of "it will be too complex to manage' holds water.

I think the easiest way to keep iBursters happy, would be to increase the cap! I'm happy with the speed, but need more megs to play with..

That will really piss Telkom off & give me the chance to download 3DMark06! (I'm currently on the 1GB option for R469.)

get 3DMark 06 on a PCformat or NAG cd/dvd, why bother downloading stuff like that?

Anyway, higher cap here too, but i hear the speed issue, I would also like to see higher speeds as Iburst doesnt always feel that fast, mainly a latency problem for browsing imo.

I also put my vote in for bigger caps (or reducing the price on the current packages)

I don't see much point in increasing the speed cause even on a bad day I can wipe out my cap in a matter of hours on iBurst.

yeah I think most of the 'speed experienced' problem is latency based - a side effect of the wireless technology as well as (more importantly) the quantity of content that is hosted overseas due to telscum's rediculous prices
